Parks & Nature

Sadly didn't make the cut to becoming a Park, but it's a great 5 hour hike from Chez Silvaine, past Killarney Lake along Crippen regional parks trail, up the north side of the mountain, stop at space-agey heli-pad on top of Mount Gardner, and down the other side to Blue Water, where you can either take the blue-water bus, or you can chose to take the fork that leads to Tunstall Bay, and walk all the way back via the south side trails, past Eddie's pit, Grafton Lake, and return via the Cove. Detailed hiking maps are available at the General Store

This is on the boardwalk to the immediate right when you walk off the ferry - rent sea going kayaks with all the trimmings and go explore our marine life, including the return of Orcas and Grey Whales to Howe Sound (a proposed marine park hopefully in the making) and a great place to go explore private settings to swim, or look at seals looking at you while you paddle. There is a very popular sea kayak race you can register for called the Round Bowen Challenge.

The access to the shore has been severely restricted by the developers and new owners of this once magnificent West Coast environment. Nevertheless, there is a boardwalk with some high bluff vistas on the way to the lighthouse.

This is a beautiful marine park right beneath the Ecological Reserve. You can kayak here and after landing, walk along the trail that follows the bluffs. Watch for seals, otters, eagles, herons, dolphins, porpoises, grey or humpback whales. On an especially lucky day, you might even see a family of orcas.

He he - Mall? Well, it's the Bowen version: a re-use it store (we don't do malls, chain stores, or other yucky stuff like that on Bowen :) This is where you will find everything and anything for absurdly ridiculously low prices - and the money from the sales goes to Bowen scholarships and other worthy causes. Also a great place to donate what you don't need/want anymore.
