Food Scene

Kamehachi - a favorite Chicagoland Japanese dining spot for more than 35 years. Sushi & cooked Japanese fare. Best to go after 6pm till 11pm. If you don't feel like sushi, try their Agedashi Tofu (deep-fried tofu . seasoned soy broth) appetizer and/or one of their amazing soups like Tempura Soba buckwheat noodles in soy broth, tempura shrimp & vegetables Since 1967, Kamehachi Old Town has been a favorite local neighborhood diners. Provide the traditional sushi for which they're known in a modern ambiance. With a large entry bar, an elegant dining room, a relaxed upstairs lounge, and a large sidewalk patio Kamehachi Old Town is the perfect spot for your next Japanese meal.

Wonderful outdoor patio area behind the restaurant. Great spot for drinks, appetizers and/or dinner. Orso's is a family owned and operated Italian neighborhood restaurant. One of the original restaurants in Chicago's historic Old Town area and is full of charm with an old world atmosphere. Extensive menu with authentic dishes including: pasta, chicken, veal and fresh fish entrees.

Even though the name is kinda silly it's a wonderful Italian restaurant serving traditional Italian cuisine in a warm setting with an outdoor patio. Really good food!

Breakfast, lunch. A little pricey but originated in Belgium their pholosophy; wrap your hands around a warm bowl of coffee, and relax into a nourishing, satisfying head start. From mushroom and goat cheese omelettes to homemade granola-topped organic yogurt, or a basket of fresh artisan bread surrounded by a variety of our specialty spreads, there are so many satisfying ways to begin.

My favorite Chicago style thin crust pizza. It's rumored the grandmother still hand rolls most of the pizza dough at the State Street Location

Lively sports bar with a wide range of bar food from salads to steaks, plus a patio & roof-deck. It's the douchebag bar of the neighborhood but still super fun with way too many sports screen tv's

The Old Town Ale House was established in 1958 by a penurious entrepreneur named E.J. Vangelder. He got the idea for the bar from a San Francisco saloon called Vesuvios which was located in North Beach. Vangelder was good at building bars and hiring bartenders. He was bad at customer relations and eventually sold the bar to a poor slob name Joe Diaz. Diaz immediately ran the bar into the ground and sold it in 1970 to a bizarre group of Rush Street eccentrics, one of whom was my friend, Art Klug. No sooner did the new owners take over the Ale House than it caught fire. Enlisting about forty brawny (and not so brawny) drinking pals they carried the old bar out of what was left of the original Ale House and into the middle of North Avenue and then through the door of what used to be Pete’s Butcher Shop. Thus was born the current Ale House. Partners came and went, each one nuttier than the previous one. Art Klug was the only one that didn’t sell. Eventually his ex-wife Beatrice bought all existing shares and took over the bar with Arthur.
