At a short 30 min. drive or taxi ride from Casa Mora B&B, the Irazú Volcano is the highest active volcano in Costa Rica. It is easily visited, with a road leading right up to the summit craters and a weekly bus service to the top. It's a popular tourist spot. From the top, you can to see both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on a clear day. There you'll find primary and secondary montane forests, making it a great place to hike and to enjoy nature.

It is considered a Catholic religious art museum and it is also the epicenter of the annual “Romeria”, a world-famous pilgrimage that takes place on August the 2nd, in which near 2.5 million people from around the world come together to walk an average of 22 miles from San Jose to the Basilica.

Steps away from Las Ruinas, it is a wonderfully restored former Military Institution and the perfect setting for a remarkable collection of historical artifacts and rotating art exhibits. There is an amazing mural honoring aboriginal cultural and one of the famous indigenous stone spheres (petrosphere) which its manufacturing techniques remain a mystery for archeologists. The perfectly manicured gardens at the main entrance are beautiful as well. Admission is free!
