The Princes Islands are easily reached by ~1 hour ferry. The are 4 islands with residential populations. Private cars are banned on the islands, so you can get around by hired bicycle, horse and cart, or simply walking. The easiest way to leave behind the noise and bustle of Istanbul.

Directly opposite the Hagia Sophia, the contrasting Blue Mosque is "only" 400 years old. The open area between these two is a place to linger and soak up the atmosphere of the old city.
