Ecola State Park At the north end of Cannon Beach, Ecola State Park has some of the most famous views of Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock. Visit Ecola Beach and Indian Beach. Both are a short walk from the parking area. There are many hikes in the Park that are simply amazing! They include: Crescent Beach - our most favorite place in Cannon Beach! Indian Beach trail to Ecola Beach. Take the trail near the restrooms at Ecola Beach Clatsop Loop - head toward the Hiker's Camp. There is a beautiful overlook Lewis and Clark Trail to Tillamook Head - this trail will take you from Ecola State Park to the south end of Seaside. It is a challenging 11.5 mile trail in and back. The Seaside end of the trail is a little steep and may have some downed trees. You can start at either end and hike as far as you like. Hug Point State Recreation Site offers an easy access to the beach. Just 5 miles south of Cannon Beach, this little wayside includes forested picnic areas, a restroom and a short walkway to the beach. Hug Point is known for it's seasonal waterfall, sandstone caves and narrow passage used before the highway was built. Imagine traveling by stagecoach along the beach. Before the highway was built, the beach was the only way to travel along this stretch of coast. North of the parking area at low tide you may walk along the original stagecoach road, still harboring the wheel ruts carved into the rock. Pioneers traveling around this headland had to hug the point carefully, even at low tide. Thus, the point and the park are both named Hug Point. https://stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=137

Arcadia Beach is just a mile south of Cannon Beach and is known for its tidepool areas to the north and south. There is a parking lot and restrooms. The beach is just steps from the parking area. Arcadia’s beach stretches for more than a mile between two headlands. Just a short distance to the north is Humbug Point, with Lion Rock just off the point. To the south is Hug Point. Both headlands can only be passed at low tide. Humbug Point was named by pioneers because it was often confused with Hug Point, the next headland south and the most difficult headland to round when traveling south along this stretch of coast. If you have the luck to explore during low tide, .6 mile further north, past an off shore rock called Jockey Cap, is Silver Point, so named for the color of the weathered spruce trees on the bluff. Many locals walk from the south end of Cannon Beach to Arcadia during low tides because of the beautiful rocks in the water and along the shore and because it is often much less busy. https://stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=135

This is definitely a favorite hike of the locals - both from Seaside and Cannon Beach. The twelve-mile, round-trip trail takes you from Seaside to Ecola State Park. The trail is challenging at times with mud and downed trees. It is very beautiful, and you will get to view points on each end without hiking the entire distance.
