The gardens are beautiful, particularly in Autumn, and the restaurant is a nice place to have lunch.
Otherwise, there's lots of places for picnics and they have quite a few BBQs if you want to take food to cook.
It's a nice drive too, go up via Katoomba and Mt Vic, across the Darling Causeway and back down through Bilpin and Kurrajong for orchards and antiques, or just a drink at the North Richmond Hotel overlooking the river.
