middle priced restaurant next to a lake in the Tiergarten and one of my favourites. German style food which also serves pizza. Often they have wood burning stoves going and you can take a walk around the lake after eating. The hot chocolate is recommended!

large public square lined with impressive architecture. Two mirroring pretty buildings. In the Christmas the market is here and also an ice rink. At the south west end of the Gendarmenmarkt there is a chocolate shop called Fassbender & Rausch which sells delicious chocolate and has a café upstairs with Berlin’s best hot chocolate!

technically the capital city of the German federal state of Brandenburg. It is about 45 minutes outside of Berlin by train. It offers beautiful walks around the Sanssouci Park which also hosts some beautiful buildings. The centre of town is also very pretty and was much less damaged by WWII than Berlin.

lovely large area of green which you can get lost in. Walk across frozen lakes and amazing statues. If you can find it (it is near the ‘Goldfischteich’ not far from the Soviet War memorial) there is a statue of the three German composers which was the only object left standing in the Tiergarten after the battle of Berlin. It was restored but still shows signs of the bullet holes from the conflict around it.
