Food Scene

My mother is originally from Barcelona so I may be a little biased, but this is one of the best tapas places I've ever been to in the US. The food is a little pricey, but totally worth it!

There are plenty of great burgers in Boston, but this is my favorite. They're big, juicy, and the outdoor seating and live entertainment in Davis Square turn this into a full experience. They have amazing desserts too, but I would recommend the ice cream at J.P. Licks next door to complete the night.

Drinks & Nightlife

Aeronaut is my favorite place to go for a drink, and not just because it's closest. They converted an old warehouse into a brewery and are not afraid to experiment so they have one of the most interesting selection of drinks, all brewed on-site. It's a big, open space where you'll find tons of people playing board games, arcade games, and a giant projector where everyone can watch you play original Nintendo games!

Located in Union Square down a slightly shady-looking alley, Backbar is a hidden treasure with fantastic drinks and a talented bartender.

While Aeronat has some great games, this place takes it to the next level. Similar to Backbar, A4cade is in an unassuming grilled cheese place called Roxy's hidden behind a big metal door with the most incredible selection of arcade games in the city.

When I say dive bar, I mean it! This place is grungy, dirty, and not for the faint of heart, but may be one of the most authentic places to visit in Boston.

Maybe I just have great memories of coming here in college, but I've always had a soft spot for The Burren. The bartenders have a thick Irish accents and they often have a live band playing traditional Irish music in the front room. The back room also has a live band on Fri and Sat nights, but there's usually a $10 cover to get in.

Also mainly Irish bartenders, this bar has one of the best and most reasonable beer and food selections in the area.

Sightseeing

Every guidebook recommends the Freedom Trail, and for good reason. While you're here, make sure to check out the Commons/Public Gardens (the swan boats and duckling statues are very Instagrammable), Paul Revere's House, the Old North Church, Faneuil Hall & Quincy Market, the North End (Italian food and cannolis!), etc.

Everything Else

This is a huge 30 foot glass globe in the Mary Baker Eddy library and one of the most underrated experiences in Boston. It's only $6 to enter and they have a beautiful presentation and light show. It also has the most incredible accoustic properties that make whispers sound like shouts and you can hear your own voice in surround sound.

Shopping

I usually take people here without any information so I don't ruin the surprise, but this may be a little difficult while I'm out of the country. This unassuming, grungy-looking corner store with no outdoor sign has a secret soda machine in the back that opens up into a high-end clothing store. I've never bought anything, but the experience alone is absolutely worth it. It's right next to the Mapparium but I would look it up on Google to make sure you're in the right place.

This is not off the beaten but but the Pru has some interesting stores and is pretty fun to walk through. I like checking out Tesla and Microsoft as well as the Apple Store across the street and there's now a brand new Eataly in the same building. No trip is complete with a view from 50+ stories up, so you can either spend $20 to go to the Skywalk Observatory that provides an open space with a 360 degree view or, if you're not with kids, take the money and get a drink at the high-end Top of the Hub. The food there isn't worth the price, but you're paying for the view so why not sip a cocktail or beer while looking out across the city and harbor?
