Not quite the old growth splendor of Muir Woods but a great walk through the redwoods without the crowds or the long drive.

Food Scene

Park St. is the center of downtown Alameda. Lots of great restaurants and shops. East End is a great pizza place at Park & Buena Vista. Burma Superstar is excellent Burmese and just a few doors down Spice I Am is a thai place that never disappoints. Julie's Tea Garden is a relaxing spot for sandwiches and coffee - check out their back patio. Mama Papa Lithuania is on the same block as Julie's, has great food, and a nice beer garden out back

Getting Around

Out in front of Cafe Jolie (which is great for breakfast/brunch) is where you can catch the 51A bus which will take you to downtown Oakland and BART and, going in the other direction, will take you to Park St. in Alameda. This is also where you can catch the transbay buses. The O and W both stop here and will get you into SF in about 25 minutes (with no traffic)

Drinks & Nightlife

Alameda doesn't have much in the name of nightlife - a few good bars, mostly along Park St. - but Monarch St. is home to Faction Brewing, Rock Wall Winery, and St. George's Distillery. All right next to each other. Great views of the Bay, SF, and the Bay Bridge. Kids are welcome at Faction and Rock Wall but not at St. George's.
