Food Scene

You order by weight and although it's price point is higher than some, it is with no doubt the best pizza in Los Angeles. Right next to Highland Park wines which is an excellent bottle shop as well.

Everyone loves this vegetarian always, vegan friendly donut shop whose donut names are inspired by alternative bands and the ingredients they are combined with.

Old school outdoor covered seating with nothing but seafood tacos and tostadas.. This is not fancy food but it is some of the most delicious if you like fish tacos. Look for the daily special.

I still like the original better in Silverlake but, this is sooo close and it's pretty darn fast too. No liquor license but, BYOB! An excellent satisfying choice with a vegetarian ramen option as well.

This is the go to sushi place for us in the neighborhood. If you want the very best I'd go to one of the places Little Tokyo has to offer. It's off of the Eagle Rock Blvd. strip that has a median and feels busy and confusing but, there is a little parking lot off of the back alley which helps make this place feel more accommodating.

Essentials

This is just down the hill on Ave 52. It's a special little grocery corner store, you can get essential groceries and snacks for the house. They also have a barista and a sandwich shop in the back that make great stuff. Sidewalk seating if you want to hang out and stay a minute. Very close.

This place is just around the corner. It is mainly a liquor, wine, and beer store with snacks. It's closer than La Tropicana but not as fancy which is fine and it's open later. On Thurs-Saturday there are delicous street tacos served by some very sweet ladies. Highly recommended.

This is not a normal "grocery". It's one of the oldest businesses left in Highland Park. I recommend it not for your essential 1st stop grocery buying but, if you want to explore some nostalgic soda pops, curiosities and other libations. Look no further than here. A walk down memory lane. In Highland Park since the early 50's and originally started in downtown since 1897. I hope it's still there by the time you are reading this as the neighborhood is constantly changing for the new.

Entertainment & Activities

I put this under tour because it's many things. It's a historically renovated bowling alley that has several bars serves oven fired pizza and also has music events in one of the bars. The bowling is expensive but, you don't have to bowl... I recommend going in for a drink and walking up the stairs that are parallel to the alleys. There are tables up there or just get close to the mechanical apparatus leaning against the rails. It's a really beautifully restored piece of work!

Getting Around

It's down the hill like a 15 minute walk. Keep that in mind when you have to walk back up the hill. Good for exercise though.
