A great quick little hike with unmatched views of Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Dunes from the top. If you're looking for a pretty view, this beats anything at the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb, with only a percentage of the tourists.

Take the trail to Baldy Overlook for the definitive best view in northern Michigan. A quick, easy hike that is just over half a mile through the woods each way. This is one of the few spots in the area that is still lesser-known, but it cannot be beaten. Trust me on this one.

Trail to BaldyTake the trail to Baldy Overlook for the definitive best view in northern Michigan. A quick, easy hike that is just over half a mile through the woods each way. This is one of the few spots in the area that is still lesser-known, but it cannot be beaten. Trust me on this one.

A sandy lake bottom and a clean but shrinking beach that generally remains pretty empty, although more and more people are beginning to discover it. Get there before everyone else knows about it!

Peterson Beach Sleeping Bear Recreation Area
One of the prettiest beaches in all of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, and one of the least crowded as well. and it's less than a 4 mile drive from the cottage. A sandy lake bottom and a clean but shrinking beach that generally remains pretty empty, although more and more people are beginning to discover it. Get there before everyone else knows about it!
A great beach for kids. A sandy shore on beautiful Crystal lake is filled with playground equipment and in-water entertainment. Swim out to one of the rafts and have a blast jumping off into the water. Beware of possible swimmers itch in the later summer months.
