Iconic central vantage point in the city centre, in the summer hosts concerts and during the festival is the home of the Royal Military Tattoo. Costs to look around the vast internal workings but free to go into the esplanade (unless the tattoo is on).

Food Scene
Laura and my favourite cafe for breakfast in Edinburgh, hands down. Good coffee too. They especially excel in veggie Scottish breakfast... they also know how to cook breakfast meat.

More of a takeaway than a restaurant but lots of seating. If you can see past the paper plates and plastic cutlery this is one of the tastiest and cheapest ways to enjoy a large curry in Edinburgh.

Wanna buy some whisky? This is the only place to go. Staff friendly, knowledgable and if you want to try something in particular and the bottle is open, they will oblige. Worldwide shipping OK.

This is a lovely open space just round the corner. In the summer, hosts many festivals. All year there are crafts, sports, barbecues. Or just find a tree, read a book or take a nap. Large playground.
