Floating the river from warm river campground is a favorite activity on hot days. Often people float in tubes, rafts, kayaks, canoes, etc.

The old rail line was converted from "rails to trails." There are several locations close by where you can park and travel in either direction on the trail. You can take the rails to trails from Ashton to Tetonia. At one point along the trail you cross the Bitch Creek trestle bridge that towers 200 feet above the creek below. Planking and rails have been added to the bridge to make it safe.
We love riding our pedal bikes or hiking on rails to trails. For directions search: Ashton Tetonia Trail Bridge or Bitch Creek Bridge.

Some of my very favorite hikes start at the Alaska Basin trailhead. The trail branches to other trails and has hikes for a variety of skill levels. I have gone with young children and just hiked/walked a mile in and then walked back.

This is a long, but quite easy hike because there is little elevation change. There is one river crossing about 1.5 miles in. It is an awesome hike---be sure to have good directions to trail head because there is no service to access trailhead info once you get close.

This is one of the most beautiful places around. Years ago hardly anyone knew about it. Pictures like mine have caused Cliff and Wade Lake (approximately 2 hours away) to be discovered.

This is a great place to bring your ATV. Look up info regarding safety requirements (red flag on pole) and suggestions regarding sand tires, etc. so you don't get stuck. :-). Please refer to BLM site for rules and regulations before recreating here.

This unique museum is located 35 minutes south of Green Ridge Getaway in Rexburg Idaho. (right off HWY 20). One of the unique things about this museum is that most of the planes on exhibit still fly.

This is located just over one hour away in West Yellowstone, MT. This "discovery center" has great exhibits and webcams where you can later watch animals you have viewed in person.

We don't golf much so it is difficult to rate or review golf courses. However, this golf course if close to GRG and the area where it is located is beautiful.

It is a short drive and hike from the cabin to this spot. Depending on the time of year it does require a high clearance vehicle to get to the trialhead. Head north on highway 20 from Ashton, approximately 2 miles from top of Ashton hill, turn right on Forest Rd 20163, stay on main road for approx. 2.5 miles then turn left and travel approx. 1/2 mile to trailhead.

Originally a private retreat for the Harriman and Guggenheim families. The park if 16,000 acres of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails that slink through meadows, forests, and near lakes and streams.

This is a favorite spot of our entire family for years. It is fun to look at the fish (and often other wildlife) from both sides of the bridge. There is often "fish food" available for sale for 25 cents from a machine. (sometimes people have already purchased it all). Near the fish food vending machine is an amazing nature trail/hike that follows the river. We often take that trail down to the boat put-in where people float down to Mack's Inn area. Near the boat put in is an awesome old railroad bridge that is part of a trail system that runs from down near Ashton all of the way to West Yellowstone. (rails to trails).

If you are a "foodie" Ashton, ID is going to probably not going to impress you like options in a big city. There are some pretty good restaurants in Island Park and West Yellowstone. Island Park is 30-40 minutes away and West Yellowstone just over an hour

In beautiful Ashton (and surrounding areas) in summer often the days are hot, but the nights cool off. The swing in temperature between day/night is often surprising to people.

There are places in Ashton where bear spray can be purchased. It is always better to have bear spray with you. Bears don't typically like groups of people so it is better to hike/explore in a group if possible.
