Eggert shopping center is in the middle of the town and has all of the major shops and stores that you will usually find in any Dutch town or city. They also have some small, interesting and eclectic shops and more of these can be found in the surrounding streets.

Monnickedam is great to stroll around and see the picturesque houses that have been well maintained. Make sure to visit the bell tower that still beats the bell hours of Monnickendam!

Volendam is the more touristic town, known for its cheese and clogs. All along the dike you will find stalls with fresh fish, french fries and other Dutch goodies.

Edam is beautiful to walk around in with its calm canals and typical Dutch houses. Check out some cheese shops and have a drink at a cafe in the old inner city.

Albert Hein is the largest chain of supermarkets in the Netherlands. Specifically at this location you can find anything you need, hence the XL. There is also a liquor store called Gal & Gal where you can buy hard alcohol. You will also find the Etos in the complex, which is a drugstore. It's a 5 minutes drive from the house.

Every Friday on the Gildeplein, which is about 1.5 km from the house, is the farmers market where you can find all sorts of typical Dutch delicacies.

To and from Amsterdam Central station - Purmerdijk 8 by CAR
If you're coming by CAR, it is important to note that we live on a dike with a bicycle lane. When using Google Maps, it will not know you can drive on that lane. You should first drive to 'Crematorium Purmerend' or 'Caravan Center Waterland', whichever is closer to you. Once you're there, you can put in our adres Purmerdijk 8, but then on 'bike mode'. It will lead you straight to the house.

To and from Amsterdam Central station - Purmerdijk 8 by BUS
There is a bus stop about 8 minutes walk away from the house: Korenstraat. From there you can take the bus 304 or 307 to Amsterdam Noord. It goes about every 5 minutes during the week and every 15 min during the weekend. Once you're at Amsterdam Noord you can take the metro 52 to Amsterdam Central station, which is only two stops.
