Sightseeing
A short drive from the properties, 50p entry per person via an honesty box. There’s a walk up to the top of the waterfall which has approx 200 stone steps (some handrails and benches along the way but note this is quite a tiring climb) but there’s also a lovely little garden with picnic benches at the bottom for those who don’t want to climb to the top. There’s also a small cafe who serve icecream, snacks and hot drinks.

Across the road from Castle Gates our cottage, and only 10-15 minutes drive from Bryniau, Tan y Bryn, Tyn-y-Coed & Upstairs at The Barn.
A C13 castle well worth a visit, right on the edge of the River Clwyd with beautiful views. There’s also a little gift shop with some great books & information about the castle and the surrounding areas.

Beautiful little harbour village, antique shops and a lovely prom to walk along. We love Fortes, an old school ice cream parlour on the corner across from the harbour!

Great little Victorian seaside town around 30 mins drive from the properties. Walk along the prom, up the pier & have a reminisce in the arcades or take the tram up The Orme and take in the views all the way over to The Isle of Mann & Anglesey.

Activities
Great for a sundowner or even an ice cream or beer in the day, but also a water sports hire centre so worth a visit if you’re adventurous and don’t mind a bit of chilly water!

Moel Hiraddug
A great little mountain nearby with some lovely walks to the top.
Lovely walk or cycle between the two towns, tarmac path so very easy for prams / bikes / scooters. This walk follows what was the old railway line, so has some interesting features along the way. We love to stop at Cafi y Shed which was the old signal box, they serve great food & always have a great range of cakes. The coffees good too! They also showcase many small local artists/craftspeople and actually is the home of Grumble Studios, where we have the candles & diffusers made for the cottages.

We love Prestatyn high st with its many independent retailers including a cheesemonger, a green grocers with an eco-refill station, and many other lovely delis/cafes/shops.

Close by is Talacre Beach, with sand dunes and a beautiful lighthouse. There’s also a pub & cafe on the road leading to it for a relaxing drink afterwards!

Lovely garden centre (only 5 minutes from Upstairs at The Barn) with a lovely home-wear department as well as a huge range of plants. The Potting Shed cafe inside is also great - try the Welsh Rarebit!

If you love a cold dip as much as we do visit Padarn - it’s an hour by car but an incredibly beautiful lake to swim in and walk around. It’s also the location of the famous ‘Lonely Tree’.
