Limitless walking potential with over 3,500 acres of heathland, woodland and streams to explore on foot, straight out of your front door! On summer evenings, nightjars can be seen and heard nearby. Bats and owls are resident in the woods opposite the cottage, and if you are lucky you may even hear the nightingale! You will want to sleep with the windows open - the dawn chorus is awesome.

An essential for anyone visiting Ashdown for the first time! A.A. Milne first played the game at a bridge located in Ashdown Forest, close to the village of Upper Hartfield. Built in 1907 and originally called Posingford Bridge, it is considered to be the bridge on which Milne and Christopher Robin first played the game. Park at the Pooh Car Park at Chuck Hatch Lane, TN7 4DN. From here you can pick up woodland trails heading north through Posingford Woods to Pooh Sticks Bridge.

The well-known Regency spa town is well worth a visit. Don’t miss the Pantiles, with Jazz concerts on Thursday evenings in the summer. Tunbridge Wells has plenty of good pubs and restaurants in the Pantiles and Mount Pleasant areas; too many to list here!

City/town information

Direct trains from Eridge to London Bridge mean the city is only an hour away, so days and nights out are within easy reach. The Queen was busy last time we were there, so she wasn't able to give us tea and biscuits when we called in.

The County Town of Sussex, an historic and interesting market town, with the undisputed Greatest Brewery In The World slap-bang in the centre of it (and indeed the centre of any right-thinking person's universe, for that matter). Bonfire Night is a bit fruity as well...
