Only about 50-60 minutes' drive away and well worth a day out, this stunningly beautiful historic town should not be missed if you are staying in the area for more than a few days.

This is a lovely pub, currently undergoing a major refurb, but it might be open soon - it was our favourite before the refurb, so I think it will be fabulous when it reopens; it's about a mile and a half from the estate, in the nearby village of Ewen

The Village Pub
This is a great pub, cool interiors, in the trendy village of Barnsley, celebs been know to frequent it, it's got a lovely frendly atmosphere, highly recommended - about 20 mins' drive away on the A419, worth the drive but don't drink too much if you are driving back..lovely Sunday lunches.
This is another favourite of ours, lovely garden and interior, great variety of very high quality pub meals, highly recommended! about 15-20 mins' drive

Alternatively, you can prebook time at the tennis courts, or hire bikes/kayaks, by going to the website of Lower Mill Estate, go to the Lifestyle/Activities page, where you can register and set up an account and then make bookings for your stay....bookings are open any time from two weeks prior to the date of use.
NO PRE-BOOKING IS NECESSARY FOR use of the SWIMMING POOLS but please remember to take the smart cards which are on lanyards hanging on the inside of the front door.
