Nature/Hikes

This is right next door to us! It has a lovely wooden trail through the wetlands. Great for bird watching. You can also reserve day sites for outdoor cookouts and fires.

There are some great trails, including PCT, you can access by heading up to Lolo Pass. Most hikes are moderate difficulty. My favorite goes to Bald Mountain.

We like Frog Lake in the winter for snow shoeing (or sometimes you only need yak tracks for your boots), especially the loop that goes by each of the Twin Lakes.

This trail is a short drive from the chalet. It's a loop that's is not very technical (except for a river crossing over logs). Romona Falls is stunning, though we love walking along the creek with its mossy rocks and trees just as much. There are also some amazing rock features and views of the Sandy. **You need a forest pass to park there, they do not have a way to pay for the day**

This is a must stop for donut lovers on the way to the chalet from Portland! It's in a red and white checkered building on the main road in Sandy.

This little Asian restaurant/sake bar is a true gem. A food cart in the back cooks up mostly Japanese fare (ramen, udon, rice bowls, sushi, curry). The bar has a nice sake list as well as delicious craft cocktails, and unlimited green tea. Meat, veggie, and vegan options.

Wood fired pizza that is the best around but likely not the best you've ever had. Worth it when pizza sounds good especially after playing on the Mt.

8-minute drive from the chalet. Take a left (head east) on Hwy 26. Drive 5 miles. It's on the left-hand side, immediately after the Dairy Queen. They make coffee/tea drinks and have a large selection of their own coffee by the pound. They also sell snacks and have a small gift shop. Note: no seating inside and limited outdoor seating when weather allows.

This snow sports area is closest to the chalet -- and the lowest elevation.. so the snow levels need to be solid to go. They host night skiing and "cosmic tubing" after dark. In the summer there are also a lot of fun & family friendly activities.

Neighborhoods

A 4-minute drive west on Highway 26, you will find this hub of restaurants/shops. 'Wraptitude' has meat, veggie, and vegan wraps, sandwiches, burgers, and drinks, and a large outdoor patio. 'El Burro Loco' is a casual Mexican restaurant. 'Rendezvous' is overpriced and very underwhelming, in our humble opinion.

Grocery Stores

In Sandy, OR. A good place to stop to load up on groceries (if coming from the west/PDX). * There is a local grocery store closer to the chalet, but it is pricier.

Contrary to the name, items in this store are generally not a dollar. However, this newer addition to the area is great for shelf stable foods as well as household & convenience items.
