This is the region's artisan and craft shopping paradise. Great food, amazing shops, amazing works of art, very safe, tranquil ambiance.

Tonala is also a great place to shop for crafts and "artesanias". It is a bit more chaotic and disorganized than Tlaquepaque, and also a bit harder to get to (use a car or Taxi/Uber instead of public transportation to get there) but on the other hand the "artesanias" and stuff you can find is cheaper.

The Colonia Americana is characterized by its beautiful antique houses and awesome trendy restaurants all clustered in one place. The area is hip and young and trendy. Nice place to go in the late afternoons or evenings for tea/coffee, dinner, or drinks.

Kids

Things to see and do with kids in Guadalajara and surroundings.
Great place for kids. Lots of things to do and see. You can easily spend a no-stress day here where the kids will be happy. Lots of little snack bars and restaurants. Ride the train and the Sky Chairs. Pro Tip: buy your tickets online via the app to avoid lines.

Great place for kids to learn about jobs and occupations. It is an entire Kid-sized city where kids "work" at a job, like fireman, dentist, construction worker, police, then get paid wages as they learn and practice those jobs. Use your wages to buy toys and prizes! Adults are allowed inside Kidzania but only kids do the jobs. Every kid loves it, very will worth the visit.

If you need some downtime with the kids, this park is safe, quiet, and has 3 small playgrounds all in one area where you can sit down (sorry, no cafes inside the park) and watch the kids over all three playgrounds at once. Great for riding bikes if you're a kid, for the same reason: spacious, quiet, and as an adult you can survey the kids at a glance without having to move around too much.

Shopping

Very modern mall. Fairly upscale. Extensive area. For the kids, you can drop them off at the Just Jump while you shop or go with them to Wokivia. Lots of little places for snacks or coffee. I recommend the crepes place downstairs. Yummy!

A typical Guadalajara tianguis, one of the biggest. Careful with kids, it is very crowded and they can get lost easily, make sure you are tethered to them at all times (i.e. hold hands or use a lanyard), as the tianguis can seem chaotic for the little ones. You can find lots of things here but people mostly come here to shop for clothes, brand new imported directly from the US.
