The East river ferry now has an Astoria route, it will take you to 34st in over 8 min, and to Pier 17 downtown really close to Wall st. and is just a 12 min walk from our place, the walk is nice and safe, service starts at 7am and ends at 8pm forget the water taxi!!!! Take the ferry for $5 and go over all the east river!! For schedule and other routes check: https://www.ferry.nyc/routes-and-schedules/landing/astoria/
