A fantastic brunch spot with amazing food. Don't settle for chains when this place is so good!

A Louisville original, a wonderfully creative place for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Hummingbird is situated roughly the same distance between a couple locations. If you want to visit the world renown Parklands at Beckley Creek before or after your meal, visit the English Station location. Or if you'd rather do some boutique shopping at the quaint Westport Village Shopping Center, visit the Herr Lane location.

At nearly 100 years old, Plehn's Bakery is still doing it right. Amazing donuts and pastries, cookies and cakes, breads and even some deli items, this Louisville landmark should not be missed. While you're there, check out the pictures on the walls of what Shelbyville Road (where Plehn's is located) used to look like!

This one of a kind pizza place has some of the tastiest and unique pizzas you'll ever try. Wood-fired and delicious, in a crazy-cool building, it's a perfect lunch spot (and only open for lunch!). They also hold Artisan Bread Camps for the bakers in your clan.

Fantastic tacos from a fantastic company (all their restaurant concepts are good and their heritage is incredible). Not sure they'd call them "Artisan" tacos, but they're worthy of the title. And if you visit the Meridian Avenue location, you can walk write over to Plehn's (also in the guidebook) for a dessert.

One of our favorite pizza places. Made in coal fired ovens, the pizzas come out perfect every time. You can create your own but I'd suggest trying one their speciality pizzas, each named after a neighborhood in Louisville (I'm partial to the "Clifton"). Their "Coal Oven Classic Wings" are fantastic, especially for the garlic lover. They have great lunch specials as well. Can't go wrong at Coal's.

Neighborhoods

Anchorage is a beautiful neighborhood right down the road from here. It's a fun drive to look around at all the beautiful houses. Or you can enjoy walking Anchorage Trail, a park paid for by the founder of Papa Johns.

NuLu is an up and coming neighborhood downtown. The street is lined with funky shops and fun restaurants. This area is still being revitalized but from what's been accomplished so far, it's gonna be worth all the work they're putting into it.

Louisville is famous for several things, not the least of which is "Louisville Slugger" bats. This is a must-stop for fans of baseball and history and manufacturing. Plus, they have a 120-foot tall, 34 ton bat out front... which is just plain cool.

We think our zoo is underrated. Sure, it has the usual suspects like lions and tigers and bears, oh my. But have you ever seen a white alligator (King Louie)? The elusive Snow Leopard? Or the largest of all eagles, Steller's Sea Eagle. You can feed tropical birds or be grossed out by all the icky snakes. Your call. But it's worth a trip... especially if you have the kiddos in tow.

Pick some apples... or pumpkins... or strawberries... or some homemade baked goods (our family is a big fan of the jalepeno cheese bread)... or some pinot. You can walk or take the wagon. There are seasonal attractions so might check the website first: https://www.huberwinery.com
