For Escapees to the Country

A neighbour has allowed access to a trail that runs down the gentle slope at the back of the chalet between the cultivated field to the right and row of trees to the left a couple hundred metres to a stream bed. Here, the trail turns right and leads along the edge of the woods. You can walk, snowshoe or ski here. However, the owner has asked that the fields/woods be explored without impact: please don't disturb the vegetation and do be discreet by not lingering near the farm in the back fields. *Hunting season/s begin/s October 15 but take caution at ALL times!

Despite its off-the-beaten-track setting, the chalet is under 15 minutes 🚗 from an IGA (groceries), SAQ (wine, spirits), pharmacy, and Dollarama. Take Route 143 into Drummondville (where it becomes Blvd. St-Joseph) until the corner of rue Salaberry to find all of the above in one block. 17 min 🚗 in the other direction (route 143 South) brings you to a Maxi (groceries), SAQ, and cantine Repas Minute in Richmond. Cantine "Hey Pappy", is 10 minute 🚗 from the chalet on chemin Allard directly across from Camping APCD, open May - Oct. 11. Nearest Depanneur: chemin Allard, corner rue Brouillette

Fans of local food and drink may wish to explore: • Les Vallons de Wadleigh Winery, a destination on the Eastern Townships wine route (open Thurs-Sun). The vineyard also features a 5km walking trail open to the general public. • The Cooperative Ecological Farm of Ulverton which offers a selection of excellent cheeses as well as locally created pottery. • La Vallée Fleurie farm store • Melbourne Farmers' Market. • Café du Couvent, Richmond for organic coffees, teas, food • Butcher shop, "La bouchée d'Or" in Drummondville offers a variety of local products and prepared-in-shop ready meals.

Parc McLean Jutras: 2.5km northwest on Route Boisvert (in the opposite direction of the village of L'Avenir). At the end of Boisvert, the road veers to the right and becomes 1e Rang. Almost immediately you will see a sign for ski-doo crossing. Immediately after this on the left, a gravel road takes you to a peaceful public access spot on the St-Francis River where you can launch a canoe or kayak, swim, fish, or just sit! Pro tip: go early on a chilly morning after sunrise to watch the mist lift off the water. There is another beautiful, public beach access to the river on the "Bec du Canard".

A pleasant, 5 km bicycle path runs from Parc des Chênes behind l'École Primaire L'Avenir through fields and woods and exits onto a point on Chemin Allard, exactly 2 km from Route Boisvert.
