Sightseeing
Kingston was New York State's first capital. Much of the city is not very appealing, but there is a historic section that has interesting buildings and is nice to walk around. The area by the Rondout is also nice. Both have some good cafes, art galleries and restaurants.

Woodstock was not much of anything until a group of 19th century bohemians came in and founded the artists colony Byrdcliffe. Many of the Byrdcliffe buildings are still active; there are sometimes performances in the theater. There are also good hiking trails behind the main house.

Parks & Nature
It's a fairly challenging hike, but worth it for the view at the top and the ruins of a Victorian hotel on the way.
