This restaurant recreates the atmosphere of the movie "Habana Blues", where among the city, the blue and the music you can enjoy an especial meal and be surprised by an actor or actress that while serving your food, recites a monologue, a poem, a fragment of a play or a song. Everyone in the staff is a current actor or actress. The food is delicious and cheap, you must go at least once.

Back 1942, this well-known restaurant was a small grocery store. This was one of Hemingway’s favorite bars and his place of choice to sip a mojito. It is worth a look if you are on a Hemingway trail or simply want to see a bit of history. One day, journalist Leandro Garcia, a regular costumer, decided to put his name on one of the walls and soon many other distinguished personalities followed suit, including Pablo Neruda, Agustín Lara, Brigitte Bardot, Ignacio ‘Bola de Nieve’ Villa, Ernest Hemingway and Salvador Allende. This is a must for most visitors.

El torreón de la Chorrera, was completed in May 1646. The tower stands on a coral islet only a few meters from the shore and not much larger than the tower itself. The tower's purpose was to impede the entry of enemy ships into the mouth of the Almendares River. The British damaged and captured the tower in 1762, after which it was rebuilt in its present form. Today, the tower contains a restaurant.

This is not the best place for eat but it is a great place for dance, so is better to have dinner elsewhere and come back for the party. After the kitchen closes at 10pm, on some nights there is live music and salsa dancing in the garden behind the restaurant. Indeed on nights where the Friday night party crowd come by, this is the place to be and the place will be packed and buzzing. The most prestigious orchestras of the moment play Cuban music for the dancing public that usually frequents this party space by the sea on weekends.

The Atelier Restaurant, where Michelle Obama dined, is a few blocks from home. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. The large main room is decorated with sparse modern lines, inside a typically idiosyncratic Vedado mansion. Two balconies have boundless cushions for the outdoor lounge. An antique hob outside, old sewing and adding machines inside make the place retro yet not old. This is such a good-looking restaurant in Vedado and with consistently quality food that nowadays is difficult to get in without a reservation.

For the best view over Havana go to La Torre, the bar on the 36th floor of the FOSCA building in Vedado. It's particularly beautiful at sunset. The restaurant is expensive but the drinks at the bar are very reasonable. It is located atop of the Focsa building which is a colossus of modernist architecture, the idea is to provide French-Cuban haute cuisine, a fine dining experience on the top of the world, or at least as high as you can get in Havana. It is a walkable distance of 8-9 blocks from home.

Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña, better known as La Cabaña, is the largest Spanish colonial fortress in the Americas. It was built between 1763 and 1774 on a long, exposed ridge on the east side of Havana harbor to fill a weakness in the city's defenses. These days the fort has been restored for visitors, and you can spend at least half a day checking out its wealth of attractions. There is a very popular evening ceremony in which actors dressed in full 18th-century military regalia reenact the firing of a cannon over the harbor, the nightly 9pm cañonazo. This ceremony is every day, no matter the weather condition.

The Iglesia de San Francisco de Paula is an example of pre-Churrigueresque Baroque style and is quite similar to the Iglesia de San Francisco de Asís. The stained glass windows have been fully restored by the Office of the City Historian and are quite a sight. The construction started in 1664. Considered by many one of the most precious jewels of Havana’s heritage, this building has now been restored as a concert hall and is the base and rehearsal space of Ars Longa, which together with the City Historian’s Office organize the Esteban Salas Ancient Music Festival.

This "Basilica" o "Monasterio" is from 1608. From 1719 to 1738 was rebuilt in baroque style. Today the church, with its excellent acoustics, is one of Havana’s finest concert halls, home to the renowned all-female chamber orchestra Camerata Romeu and the venue for a regular series of classical, choral, and contemporary concerts. The nave also houses the Museum of Sacred Art, a center for art exhibitions to the south side of the nave.

This majestic representation of Jesus Christ, only four decades old, is part of the landscape that characterizes the entrance to the Havana harbor. It is 20 meters tall, weighs 320 tons and consists of 67 different pieces, and made in white Carrara marble, contrasts with the gray rocks around it. The monument was made in Italy by Cuban artist Jilma Madera, who didn’t use any male model and instead based her work on her masculine beauty ideal.

The avenue’s original name was Avenida de Las Américas (Avenue of the Americas). Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) stretches from the tunnel that connects it to Calzada Street, in Vedado, to the Santa Ana River, in the locality of Santa Fe. Considered the most beautiful avenue of its time, its construction was decisive for the development of Miramar. The central part of Quinta Avenida is a pedestrian walkway landscaped with bushes, flowers and trees. In the mornings, it is a place for jogging, running or working out, whether in groups or alone. In the afternoons, especially before nightfall, parents take their kids to the walkway where they can run, ride their bikes or skate.

This avenue takes its name, Avenida de los Presidentes, from the monuments that have been placed on its wide promenade to honor some of Cuba’s former presidents as well as other important historical figures, among them, Cubans Calixto García and José Miguel Gómez, Chilean Salvador Allende, Panamanian Omar Torrijos, Mexican Benito Juárez and Venezuelan Simón Bolívar. Most locals simply call it ‘Calle G’ (G Street), and with its trees pruned in different shapes and its lavish mansions, is one of the most splendid streets in Vedado. At night, mainly on weekends, the area becomes crowded with young people, who come here with guitars, drums and even windpipes to have a good time.

The pioneering ecovillage of Las Terrazas is a Unesco Biosphere Reserve. The region’s biggest attraction is its verdant natural surroundings, which are ideal for hiking, relaxing and birdwatching. Also you can enjoy the San Juan River, a beautiful, natural bathing spot noted for over a century for its clear, clean, sulphur springs and natural pools. Over-nighters can stay in the community’s sole hotel: the Hotel Moka.

This park is only 3 blocks from home and it is very quite, sometimes you can find children playing football at the empty fountain. This beautiful fountain of 51 meters by 16 and one meter depth is constructed with a large hard rock stone of Artemisa. In the transverse axis of the park there is a large semicircular pergola and in the center of it there is a flag-carrying mast, which contains a solid and artistic basement-bench, decorated with bronze disks. At the other end of the park stands a large area, with a semicircular white marble floor of classical Greek style, decorated by bronze candelabra. On summers nights, free concerts of electronic music and fusion are offered.

In the first floor there is a room where the different Havana Club rums are exhibited, as well as a sample of the tools used in the 19th century for cultivating sugarcane and producing molasses. Also, you can see where the rum is aging. After an 18-month period of aging, they are blended with treated water and pure spirits producing a young rum which is filtered and bottled as Silver Dry (White Rum). Or it is aged some more in white cedar wood barrels that are scraped and burnt, acquiring special characteristics that are impregnated in the future rum during aging. The longer the rum is kept in the barrels, the darker it becomes, and its taste also changes.

Spread over two campuses, the Bellas Artes is arguably the finest art gallery in the Caribbean. The 'Arte Cubano' building contains the most comprehensive collection of Cuban art in the world, while the 'Arte Universal' section is laid out in a grand eclectic palace overlooking Parque Central, with exterior flourishes that are just as impressive as the art within. The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes – Arte Cubano displays purely Cuban art and, if you're pressed for time, is the better of the duo. Works are displayed in chronological order starting on the 3rd floor and are surprisingly varied.

Considered the most important example of baroque architecture in the city, this grand building was built in 1792. It served as Spanish colonial government headquarters until 1898 and housed 65 Capitanes Generales, after which it served as the center of U.S. military administration (1898-1902), then as the Cuban president’s resident, and finally (1920-67) as the City Hall. It is today the Museo de la Ciudad telling the tale of the city’s history. In addition to the private quarters of the captains general and their families, the museum includes historical exhibitions and displays of old horse-drawn carriages, uniforms and artillery pieces, and funerary and religious art.
