Our absolute favorite destination is “our lake” approx. 15min drive from Aups. Like a turquoise blue gem, it lies there, glittering in dazzling sunlight - surrounded by Europe's largest canyon on one side and on the other side the low plateau with all fragrant lavender fields. The lake is approx. 1 mile long and is a dam of the River Verdon. Under the lake lies the old village of Les Salles, which unfortunately had to go into the tomb for the lake to be created.

Another natural experience near Lac Sainte Croix is the fantastic Canyon, Europe's largest. You just have to experience it and you can't do justice to the pictures in pictures.

Villecroze is a picturesque little town with a fantastic park, below caves that were inhabited as far back as the 1930s. Guided caving tours during the high season (afternoons). Here is also one of the best Potterie (pottery makers) La Potterie de Soleil in the area. In the small square inside the walls you will also find a cozy café La Bohéme run by an English woman. There you can enjoy a lot of good teas and fantastic carrot cake.

World-renowned worldwide for its fantastic home-made tiles. On the way to Salernes, if you go via Villecroze, you must not miss a small genuine vineyard Domaine Valcolombe with a female winemaker. They produce small quantities but it is very good quality of the wines.

We discovered Bormes-les-Mimosa a couple of years ago and it is an absolutely beautiful little village that climbs up the mountain, only 5 km from the coast. Here you will find many cozy restaurants and a cozy pedestrian street with small shops.

Is a nice "tourist trap" and an artist village well worth a visit if you are in Grasse or down the Riviera. Two Finnish artists have a different shop called CouCou.

A picturesque mountain village dating back to the 12th century. From the castle ruins at the top of the city you have a fantastic view over the bay of Saint Tropez and the surrounding countryside.

The proximity to the main cities of the Riviera makes Biot a perfect starting point for excursions. Within minutes you reach Antibes, Cannes and Nice. For those who are golf enthusiasts there is an idyllic golf course in Biot. Here also lived the famous Swedish artist Hans Hedberg, known for his apple sculptures.

This part of France offers many attractions! The coastal road from Frejus-St Raphael towards Cannes, the so-called. La Corniche de l 'Esterel is the most beautiful route along the Riviera. Some of our favorite places to visit are Nice, the 'capital' of the French Riviera, with its long boardwalk Promenade des Anglais. Another way along the road is to reach the Principality of Monaco, which is something really extra with its luxury cars and yachts. A visit to the well-known Casino is a must! We usually go down to Sainte-Maxime, which is approx. 1 hour from Aups and is the nearest town down to the Riviera. The old town is very cozy with many restaurants and good shopping. From there you can take the boat over to Saint Tropez, in order to avoid the constant queues. Saint-Tropez is a fantastic city located on a peninsula surrounded by a castle. Nice to just stroll around in all the alleys, lots of restaurants and shops in all price ranges but obviously not very cheap. It is a real experience to admire the giants of boats located in the harbor and in the bay.

Èze is a must see when you are in this area. The medieval mountain village of Eze Village is beautifully situated on a steep mountaintop midway between Nice and Monaco. The village's narrow and winding streets are characterized by old stone houses, all beautifully authentically restored. Together with the fountains, the squares and the flowers, they make Eze one of the most beautiful medieval villages on the entire French Riviera. At the very top are the ruins of the village's old castle, which dates back to the 13th century. From the castle and the surrounding botanical garden you have a unique view of the Côte d'Azur.

Is a slightly larger village with many restaurants to choose from. Bruno Restaurant is a very famous restaurant that is well worth a visit! Book in time during high season. Here is also an Australian / French / English pair of Lorgues Coffee Roaster, a roastery with fantastic coffee and tea from the best places in the world. Every Tursday all year round you have Marché from 08:30-13:00. This is a very big Marchè with fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, flowers, clothing etc. It is a really good Marchè. My recommendation is to be there early, it will be very busy after 9:30 and also hot in July and August. On the way to Lorgues you will also find the well-visited Chateau de Bern. A large and beautiful vineyard that is quite commercial but well worth a visit.
