Wonderful, picturesque views from Burrator reservoir. Park up and walk round the reservoir - it takes about an hour if you follow the road, but you can treat yourself to an ice cream at the end! Really worthwhile and great family activity.

A walk up Sheeps Tor gives fantastic views of the surrounding area, and it's great fun climbing over the granite crops at the top. You need to be relatively fit and active to do this.

An exceptional ( and very large! ) garden on the outskirts of Buckland Monachorum. Allow a good few hours to explore properly.

Morwellham Quay is great for a family day out. It's an old tin mining facility which has been transformed into a living museum with period actors and costumes. You can explore how people used to work and live during this time, look at their houses and take a train ride through the tin mine.
