Shopping and more

UPTOWN! It's a fun shopping experience with varied shops and restaurants only a 5-minute walk from Sedona Spirit. Over the past 25 years, we've strolled Uptown hundreds of times. The fun thing is that for the most part, everyone is on vacation and generally in a fun mood. OK, there's no stopping the grumpy ones but unless they're with you you don't have to go home with them. There's a lot of touristy stuff but I think it would be a shame to not take a little stroll through Uptown and give it a chance.

The Art Center is located on 89a at the north end of uptown which is only a 5-minute walk from Sedona Spirit. I believe there's a new themed exhibit every month featuring Sedona artists, both accomplished local artists and professional artists. Some people refer to it as the creative heart of Sedona both for art and music.

This used to be free but times change and the Airport Authority now charges a nominal fee to enjoy the view, I think a dollar. I would recommend going just before sunset, it overlooks West Sedona with the beautiful red rocks in the background.

Neighborhoods

Approximately a 35-minute drive to Jerome, AZ. It has a few things going for it, it's a quirky old mining town and in fact, the most vertical city in the U.S. plus Jerome is also known as a ghost town. Jerome has a long colorful history. It's fun to walk around with a lot of interesting shops, galleries, views, and some unique restaurants. Now the old jalopy may not have a problem but take warning, respect the speed limit in Jerome, it's near to zero tolerance and we all know there's nothing like a speeding ticket to destroy a day or more of your vacation,

About a 25-minute drive Cottonwood is a fairly large small town with plenty to offer like Walmart etc. but for a fun experience and some good restaurants look for Old Town Cottonwood. Take 89a south to cottonwood but when 89a turns left continue straight on Main St. to Old Town. A lot of shops and restaurants including wine tasting establishments.

Ballooning is a unique experience moving with the wind is so quiet. We really recommend at least doing it once in your life and we also recommend to dress in layers, it can be really cold up there no matter the time of year.

There are numerous helicopter tour companies but Guidance Air was Voted #3 Helicopter Tour in the USA by USA Today. We don't make any commissions regardless of who you choose and even if we did I would recommend comparing prices and tours. We had a great ride many years ago, it's expensive but one of those things you will hardly ever do and there's not many places better to do it than Sedona.

There's probably a half dozen ATV rental places and at least one guided tour company using ATV's and a Hummer Tour company. Do a little research for your best price, and company policies. It's fun but be careful even a four-wheeler can turn over if you're caught off guard or reckless but keeping safety in mind Sedona is a great place to enjoy a great ride.

The Verde Canyon, featuring an abundance of native flora and fauna, rugged, high-desert rock faces and spectacular vistas, is only accessible by rail. As you step aboard this popular excursion, complete with luxurious coaches and open-air viewing cars pulled by vintage diesel engines, expect to be captivated by this untouched and unspoiled canyon. This is fun, we always recommend it we've never had a complaint.

Hop aboard a trolley as you travel through Sedona and Boynton Canyon on this 1.5-hour tour. Along your ride, listen to exciting little-known facts about the town and hear American Indian legends from your guide. See Jordan Park and the mesmerizing red-rock mountain area of the canyon. Pass by filming locations from old Hollywood westerns, and stop at some of the most well-known landmarks for photo ops. It has good reviews on Trip Advisor but we've never had the pleasure to experience their tour.

What can we say, if you enjoy a little gambling go for it? It's not Vegas but you can still have a little fun. Newly remodeled excellent restaurants and bars with occasional entertainment as well. Say hello to my money.

The only thing Sedona offers more than hiking would be the views. There are a lot of trails and while we have booklets in the room you may want to either research online or stop at the Chamber of Commerce because they have a lot of information about hiking and some people with first-hand knowledge.

Boy, we got stars more than we have views. You pretty much can go anywhere locally and have great views for stars but I have to admit it's interesting and it can be a great learning experience.
