Take a walk (directly from the apartment or from balaclava or if you want to go more directly, from Windsor station) up chapel st for tonnes of restaurants, cafes and shops. You can walk from Windsor into prahran. Chapel st, Greville st, Prahran markets. Great for Friday night or Saturday night dinners or drinks. So much good food to try on this strip: Naha east, mr miyagi, Tokyo Tina, hawker hall etc
Windsor
Jump on a 96 to museum or Johnston st and take a walk around the big block: gertrude st, Brunswick st, Johnston st, Smith st. (Of course, if you venture off this route, you’ll be rewarded with nice finds in all directions!

Nestled against Fitzroy, you’ll find abbotsford which is home to a long list of hidden bars, micro breweries, cafes, restaurants, riverside walks and the abbotsford convent, with urban farm and eateries. Great place to spend the day!

You can continue to walk up Chapel street into Windsor, if you’re a walker, too!

I personally prefer this to the queen vic market as it is less touristy. There are some nice gifts, fashion and homewares for sale here too.
