My Favorite & Most Convenient Places

Food scene

These are a few of my favorite places to get food in the area. Harvest Market is great to stock up in gourmet provisions. I love Harrisons because of the cozy atmosphere, and I prefer the Shaws in Waterbury over Stowe because it's larger and better priced.
Ask for the Stowe Area Discount when you are checking out. More than likely, they will take 10% off your total! Only the locals really know about this. Fabulous gourmet prepared foods, VT craft beer, fine wines, pate, baked goods/pastries/cakes (they will write on a cake for you if requested) Their wood-fired freshly baked bread is the best in the state! Challah bread is available on the weekend. Call ahead of time to reserve your loaf as it can sell out quickly - 802-253-3800 - hmstowe.com

This is one of my favorite places to eat dinner. The menu is pretty versatile, and the bartender makes excellent cocktails. Great atmosphere. Reservations are recomended.

I like coming here because of the friendly staff and great cocktails. The sushi is ALWAYS fresh. They will even pick you up and drop you off for free via their shuttle! If you want to do hibachi, I would make a reservation.

Sightseeing

These are just a few of my favorite outdoor activities in the area. I am happy to suggest more if you ask.
Excellent panoramic views of the green mountains. They have a beautiful garden that you can take walks in, a farm with live animals, walking/hiking trails (there is a fee to use for the day) , mountain bike trails (you can rent mountain bikes)

My favorite hike. If you can make it to the top (takes a little over an hour), you will be rewarded with amazing views of Mount Mansfield. I would say this is an intermediate level hike. Make sure to bring hiking boots, water, and cell phone with a full charge.

This is a really easy hike. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the falls. Great swimming spot in the warmer months. The falls are absolutely breathtaking! This place can get pretty busy during the spring, summer, and fall.

Smuggler's Notch, Vermont's most dramatic road, passes through picturesque forests and bold rock outcroppings, the state's most famous resort village, and over a shoulder of Mount Mansfield, its highest mountain. The road is closed in the winter months. Native Americans traced the path over this high pass, but its name dates from use during the War of 1812 as a supply line to the British army in Canada, which happened to be fighting the U.S. Army at the time. In 1807, President Thomas Jefferson had imposed an embargo against trade from Canada, a hardship for Northern Vermonters for whom Montreal was a prime market. The first carriage road through the pass wasn't opened until 1894, and the present Route 108 dates from 1910. It was improved in 1922 in time for Prohibition, during which Smugglers' Notch took on new meaning, this time with contraband flowing south from Canada.

Grocery/Pharmacy

There is no Rx pharmacy in Stowe.
You will drive past this grocery store on your way to my home. If you need a pharmacy (there isn't one in Stowe), then I suggest stopping here. There is a Shaw's supermarket in Stowe, but this one is much larger and isn't as expensive as the one in Stowe.

This is a small chain grocery store and is technically the closest place to buy groceries. I recommend coming here if you are already in Stowe and heading back to the Gregg Hill House just to pick up a few things. They do have a very extensive wine selection for the size of this shop, along with fresh produce.

I personally do not like coming here, but they have everything you could need at a grocery store. I much prefer the Shaws in Waterbury because they have a much larger store. I also find the prices to better than the Stowe Shaws.

When I am out in Morrisville (not far from Stowe at all), I enjoy shopping here for groceries. They have a really nice bulk food section and there is a pharmacy inside the grocery store.

I come here because the pharmacy staff is always super pleasant. It's also the newest pharmacy in the area, and I find that they have a bigger selection of items that are non-Rx.

Smugglers Notch Pass Closed In Winter

If you are planning on going to Smugglers Notch Resort, your GPS may direct you to take "the notch" route 108. Do not go this way in the winter, because you will only have to turn around. Make sure you are heading North on RT 100 going towards Morrisville to reach Smugglers Notch in Jeffersonville.
