These restaurants are not too far away and as tasty as can be
This taco stand is literally down the block, near the gas station at Zuni and Mississippi. You can't beat $2 tacos (used to be $1, but y'know, the world just doubled in price). Ask for the red and green salsas when ordering.

This is my favorite taco stand. After years operating as a small cart, they now have a dining room. On weekend late nights, you'll find families chowing down while Richard TV plays on the big screen. Pirated DVDs and other goodies for sale in the lot out front. Try every salsa and all the meats.

The places I love and visit as often as possible
With tons of free summer concerts, Levitt is becoming one of Denver's most beloved places to see a show. Grab some picnic foods (picnic gear is in the closet), and head over there by car or on foot, as it's only one mile away!

For a man who can't keep a cactus alive, I'm surprised by how moving this place can be. Post up on a bench near a shaded pond, strewn with lily pads and circled with reeds. Get your mindfulness on.

This street is Denver's original Main Street, and where the revitalization started, when preservationist Dana Crawford saw something special about this dilapidated block in the mid-1960s. She created a paper cutout of its storefront windows and rooflines and got a friend to support her in her vision of revitalization. From there, she had a hand in bringing MLB baseball to downtown AND the overhaul of Union Station, where they named a hotel after her. Go stroll down the street, have some drinks, eat some delicious (but pricey) food.

This restaurant, one of many in the Avanti food incubator (a cool space featuring restaurants looking to test their business models, as well as upstairs and downstairs bars), offers arepas, a sandwich-like pocket made from unleavened corn flour, and stuffed with a ton of flavor. You've probably heard about it. But you have to experience it for yourself to appreciate it. Cliff divers, sopapillas, warm beer, cold food. It's so bad it's good. **Update: The creators of South Park have bought the property out of bankruptcy and hired one of Denver's best chefs to revamp the menu. Currently, they're working on an email waiting list. But stay tuned!

This new installment of the Santa Fe art collective (turned uber-ambitious entertainment corporation) is billed as experiential or immersive art. With the different rooms and worlds layed out inside, you might forget you're in a five story building tucked between two highways. It's almost hard to take in all at once--but definitely worth a visit. The place practically sings a siren song of altered mind states, and the parking nearby is iffy, so consider hopping on the train at Broadway Station, jumping off at Auraria West, then hoofing it under I-25. Head towards the light.
