Sightseeing and Adventuring

There is so much to see in the Page / Lake Powell / Glen Canyon area. Here are a few of my favorites
This is an incredible place to visit if you have access to an SUV or 4 wheel drive. Alstrom Point can be accessed by dirt road approximately 20 miles from Big Water, Utah.

There are several rafting company's in Page that can arrange your float trip. You can take your own kayak, and take a water taxi up to the dam. But honestly, the drive is gorgeous, the balance rocks are neat, and the old building and orchard are worth the trip.

Lake Powell is the 2nd largest reservoir in the country that is 185 miles long with over 2000 miles of shore line. There are hundreds of canyons with rock cliffs, arches, glens, native american ruins. It would take a lifetime to see it all! The lake offers many watersports opportunities such as jet skiing, waterskiing, wake boarding, wake surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking and tubing to just name a few. Rentals are difficult to get, so plan early!

Fun, quick hike. You can see the lake, but water access is better from “the Chains”.

The Dam Tour is a great time, check the website for Covid rules! . It's scenic and it's free. You can see the inter-workings of an active hyrdo-electric dam. The visitor center has lots of information on the area.

From Lee’s Ferry, (about an hour from Page) you can be backhauled up the river, and then paddle board/kayak back down to Lee’s Ferry. Backhauking is about $75.00, plus the boat rental. It’s an all day adventure, and the water is cold, even in July. Look out for the mountain goats, wild horses and petroglyphs.

This is more of a quick hike that is just beyond the Beehive Campground. It would be a great combination with Horseshoe Bend for an awesome day.

The canyon is a long drive on a maintained dirt road. It is beautiful, and has more hiking trails, but the Narrows North are our favorite. Grosvenor’s Arch is further down the road, but both the canyon and the arch can be see in one day.

This is about an hour drive north of Page, but a great alternative to Antelope Canyon. You MUST have a side by side or Jeep to reach this canyon.

This is the one of the best beaches by Lake Powell. Do your research, and do not get stuck in the sand. It can get crowded, and the sand is very deep. There is also a four-wheeling area above the beach. Many people camp on the beach here. Lone Rock Canyon (across the bay) is great for kayaking, as well as the cliff jumping. Pass required!!

By the boat ramps, both Wahweap and Stateline, are great beaches for swimming. Access is easy, just drive down the boat ramp, unload your beach gear, and go park your vehicle, then return for a great beach day.

The chains is one of the best ways to swim in the lake. It can be a difficult hike down, and the “beach” is sandstone, but the swimming and cliff jumping is amazing.

Upper Antelope Canyon is an amazing place. Mid-day, summer, is a great time to go and see the sun beams shooting down through the cracks. But really anytime is stunning. A tour is required to see this canyon. All tour companies are great. Some leave from town, some meet closer to the canyon. You’ll be transported from the highway to the entrance (about a 15 minute drive). We do enjoy enjoy the stairs. Some companies do not have stair access and you’ll be walking down a sand dune.

Outside of the town of Big Water, a dirt road will lead you to the entrance of the Grand Staircase. One of our favorite overlooks, is Kelly’s Grade. This is a scary climb, but worth it. Be sure to look at the balance rocks along the way. You’ll want a vehicle made to go on the dirt! Kelly’s Grade and Alstrom Point are a great combination for an exciting day!

This wonderful canyon will end at Warm Creek Bay on Lake Powell. This dirt road requires a four-wheel drive to access the water. If you’re interested in less crowds on the beaches of Lake Powell, don’t have a boat, but have a four-wheel drive, this is the perfect place for you!

This overlook was made even more famous when IKEA added a picture of Tuweep to its inventory. It is a very long dirt road to reach the overlook. Once there, you’ll be able to adventure around at the different view points, eat your packed lunch, and there is a nice restroom.

The long, sandy road is worth the hike around the cliffs. Do research and decide if your vehicle will make it or not. The walk from the parking lot to the rock formations is minimal.
