A bit raw and unkempt, but that is precisely its charm, and probably the only place in Buenos Aires where you can experience what the first Spanish conquistadores saw when they landed in the Rio de la Plata basin.

If Buenos Aires is the only part of Argentina you're visiting, but you still want to experience nature, this is the place for you. One of the biggest deltas in the world, you will find yourself in a wild environment less than an hour from downtown Buenos Aires. If you have the time, hire a local guide to explore it, the popular catamaran rides don't really show much of its richness.

Not really walking distance from the apartment, but close enough. The old immigrant neighborhood in Buenos Aires, where most foreigners first stayed before moving on to other areas of the city. Now an artist-lined alleyway and street museum with a history as colourful as its buildings. Please stay within the tourist areas and the Boca Juniors stadium, as other areas of the neighborhood are potentially dangerous.

Walking distance form the apartment, this striking late-19th-century Russian Orthodox Church is on the north side of Parque Lezama. The work of architect Alejandro Christophersen, it was built from materials shipped over from St Petersburg. Stop by to admire the church from outside; the doors are closed to the public except for once a month (usually the second Sunday) when guided tours are offered at 3:30pm – send an e-mail ahead of time to request an English-speaking guide.

Café San Juan has very good food at affordable prices, but it fills quickly and is a little on the noisy side. If you get there and the place is full, there’s a little bar in the front where you can have a drink while you wait for your table.

There is a growing food court in the Mercado de San Telmo, a lot of it take-out, but some seating places as well. It’s a fun place to grab a bite, meet other tourists (the stands are usually packed) and you have specialties from all over the world, including, of course, local classics like choripan (chorizo sandwich) and empanadas.

If you want to have breakfast near the apartment, I would suggest La Poesía. It's the quintessential “porteño” coffeeshop, but it’s also a great place for breakfast, lunch or even a good beer and cold cuts (or a picada, as porteños call it).

The Puente de la Mujer (Woman's Bridge) is a rotating footbridge in Puerto Madero. It is of the cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge type and is also a swing bridge, but somewhat unusual in its asymmetrical arrangement. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, who described the design as representing the image of a couple dancing the tango. Most of Puerto Madero's streets have women's names, thus "Puente de la Mujer".
