Favourite haunts and recommendations

You will need to book a table in most restaurants throughout the year. We recommend visiting a few places outside St Ives, including some garden and restaurants. There's plenty more to see in Cornwall, and your best bet is to have a look in our file and in the pamphlets, or go to the Tourist Info. desk in the Library.
The food is always good, the staff friendly and helpful, and the setting second to none. BOOK A POD to make it an extra special occasion.

Every Thursday till 2pm in the Guildhall. We like to support local produce suppliers, as and when we can. The Indian counter is fab! And the cakes, pies and so forth are normally excellent. Perfect for a visit when the weather is not great.

Tucked away in the centre of St Ives, this has been one of our favourites since we moved here ten years ago. Good, honest, generous dishes, wonderful staff and ambience....

Love love love this place. Enjoy a quiet couple of hours in a peaceful, away from it all location bang in the middle of town. Sounds like a bit of a contradiction, but you'll understand once you are there!

Lovely restaurant/bistro. Nice staff, great ambience, and the food is always very good. The car park is small, but there is a public car park next door. Walk into the village after your meal, it's a picturesque delight.

One of our favourite haunts outside town. Service can be a bit slow, but the food is worth the wait. We have taken guests there time and time again, and they all love it. Combine lunch with a visit to St Michael's Mount. Or book an evening meal, and then walk down the Promenade as the sunlight fades...

Great place to spend an afternoon. Cafe is excellent, and the new gallery is also worth a visit. Love the little shop inside, and the gorgeous (outside) plants for sale next to the dinkiest garden shed ever.

An absolute must. Try and see a performance her, we've yet to be disappointed. The setting is unique. Try and visit Porthcurno beach next door, as it's simply stunning.

Well worth the drive (which takes about an hour or so). Lots to do and see, and good eateries there as well. Ample parking, and if the weather isn't great, you can spend hours in the covered domes.

GIve Penzance a go! There are lots of interesting streets once you've left the main 'drag', with good little shops and cafes. The Jubilee Pool is lovely, and the walk along the Promenade to Newlyn (and the gallery there) is stunning. Don't miss the Porridge Po in Penzance itself. It can get very busy at lunchtime but it's worth the wait. Chapel St. is where we always head for window-shopping. The temptation to buy a rug or browse the second-hand shops is overwhelming.

Walk here from the Lighthouse, keeping the sea on your left. It will take about 1 1/2 hours, so take some water and a picnic. The beach is never crowded, and the views are tremendous. The walk there along the coastal path is fairly straightforward, with a few hills on the way. If you don't want to walk back, take the bus from Lelant or the scenic train.

Great food, owned by the same brothers who own the Old Coastguard in Mousehole. Lovely ambience, especially when it's cold and their fires are roaring! Good walk down to the sea from this Pub?hotel.

Walk to Zennor (3-4 hours along the rocky coastal path, can be quite arduous, need walking boots), and then treat yourselves to lunch at this gorgeous pub. Great food. Olde worlde. In the summer, eat outside on trestle tables, and dilly dally for as long as you can! Then take the bus back (check the times), walk home through the fieds (an alternative to the coastal walk), or take a cab.
