One of the hottest additions to the Harlem soul food scene, Red Rooster's chef Marcus Samuelsson has created a Harlem dining destination that is both refined and popular. The pizza is outstanding, and the wine list is well-priced. This is a great neighborhood place, suitable for parents with young kids, couples on a date, business partners at a working lunch, or even solo people wanting to read a newspaper over a coffee or glass of wine. The back yard is also quite lovely. Don't expect 4-star service. The whole restaurant is very laid back, and everyone seems to be on Italian-people-time.

It's kinda hard to find because the front of it is a burger joint called Dutch Boy Burger. But if you go down the hallway in the back of the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a HUGE bar with video games, an awesome outdoor space and even a back bar. There's oftentimes a DJ on weekend nights, and they also have large TVs if you're looking to watch a sporting event.

Washington Square has long been a hub for politics and culture in New York City. The Park is an open space, dominated by the Washington Square Arch at the northern gateway to the park, with a tradition of celebrating nonconformity. The Park's fountain area has long been one of the city's popular spots for residents and tourists. Most of the buildings surrounding the park now belong to New York University, but many have at one time served as homes and studios for artists. Some of the buildings have been built by NYU while others have been converted from their former uses into academic and residential buildings.

Open Saturdays and Sundays. Food vendors, vintage clothes and shops, local Brooklyn makers. Definitely a must on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and to shop for an unexpected gift to take home.

If you don't know Trader Joes then I should probably explain it in person. Amazing grocery store for premade meals and snacks etc, worth the long line, cheap. NO wine at this location though.

Until Whole Foods opens in Williamsburg, we still pick up our groceries at the Union Square location, and then hop on the L train. Trader Joe's is also down the block on 3rd Ave.
