La Palma is a neighborhood stronghold. Once a week a truck full of corn comes and shoots its contents through the side of this place so they can turn it into the best tortilla chips, tortilla, and huraches around. Stop in and pick up some chips and salsa and taco fixings, too.

Tartine is a local legend for their bread and baked goods. And now they've opened a new over-the-top location in the neighborhood that is a must-try. The lines will be insane - be forewarned. Best to try it during the week at some odd hour.

Heath started across the water in Sausalito, but opened this location not too long ago. There's a full-on tile factory on-site, as well as a beautiful store full of their ceramics and lots of other beautiful stuff for the home. A great (if somewhat spendy) place for gifts.

You can't visit San Francisco without checking out Bi-Rite Market. Plus, Sam the owner catered our wedding almost 20 years ago, so we kinda owe him.

Rainbow is the best hippie food in San Francisco. A gigantic, sprawling co-op that is legendary for its aisles and aisles of everything organic and healthy. The cheese counter rules. Don't expect meat or fish - those don't happen here.
