Food Scene

Great place for coffee nearby. It's small, so don't expect to stake out a place to hang out and work on your screenplay.

Nearest place to get good coffee. Also has really great lunch-type foods, and a very nice hidden back patio.

My go-to neighbourhood pub/restaurant. Check them out for pints, burgers, elaborate grilled cheeses. Also has a killer weekend brunch.

Like Italian sandwiches? This place is a real gem. I haven't tried everything, but based on the things I've tried, I assume everything is good.

This place is pretty new, but a great addition to the neighbourhood. They have a really solid and reasonably priced upscale Mexican brunch on weekends.

This is one of three main greasy spoons within a block of the apartment, but it's my number one choice for greasy breakfast. They have a huge parking-lot-turned-patio, the staff are always super friendly, and the portions are ridiculous. This is the least 'fancy' of my recommendations, but it never disappoints.

This place serves really tasty middle eastern fare, and has a very hip, modern vibe, but so much that it's obnoxious. You'll probably need to make a reservation, but the food is great.

ROTIS! Super gigantic Indian rotis that will probably last for at least two meals.

This place is weird. It sort of feels like either an art gallery, or a bank, inside a large industrial space. There's lots of ridiculously comfortable seating and you can get a small coffee for two fifty and hang out forever on their free wifi. They've got a tiny covered patio, and an array of giant flatscreen monitors on the walls, for some reason.

Parks & Nature

This is the closest park. It's pretty small and mostly family-oriented, but there's plenty of space for lounging, reading, napping. Highlights include bocci ball pitches, and the chance to spot some truly badass cooper's hawks who nest in some of the conifers.

The other closest small public park, this one has a public restroom for prolonged park sessions. Good mix of sunny and shady areas. Another highlight is the stern-looking bust of composer Jean Sibelius.

Christie Pits is your nearest large municipal park. A great place for lounging, sporting, secret drinking...whatever. They've got an outdoor public pool, and show free outdoor movies on Sunday nights during the summer. Not quite as much of a Coachella vibe as renowned hipster park, Trinity Bellwoods, but equally great summer lounging opportunities.

Shopping

Iconic retail circus, Honest Ed's is just south of the apartment on Bathurst. About a ten-minute walk. This place is closing its doors soon, so head down while you can to check out bargains on household goods in a strange, disorienting funhouse environment!

Arts & Culture

Casa Loma is about a fifteen minute walk from the apartment. It's a giant mansion built by some kind of early 20th century fatcat that's been turned into a museum. The price of admission gets you into wander around freely, or follow an audio tour of areas including some secret tunnels and passageways, a stable, a lookout tower, and general lavish old-timey rich person stuff. If you're a fan of costume dramas like Downton Abbey, definitely check it out.
