Food Scene

St. Johns Village is only 5 minutes walk from the house and you can find both eat in and take away food. The co-op is a small but excellent supermarket where you can buy ready made meals to bring home to the oven or microwave, along with fresh foodstuffs. Seafare is well known for it's delicious fish and chips, or you can bring home Chinese or Italian or Indian food, or eat in at the restaurants. You won't starve in St. Johns!

Seafare is open every day of the week except for Mondays. It is a take away outlet (sorry about describing it as a restaurant but there was not better category to choose from on the list!). The portions are huge and very good value.

Sightseeing

Hampton Court Palace was originally owned by Sir Henry Moore who gave it to Henry VIII. It then became his hunting lodge on the banks for the River Thames. On a Sunday morning, you can attend the service in the chapel, or just visit the palace and the gardens for a wonderful day out.

This is a beautiful and historic place to visit and is a favourite home of Queen Elizabeth II. Set in the midst of Windsor Great Park and on the banks of the Thames, Windsor town and the castle are well worth a visit. See the Queen's Dolls House, St. George's Chapel and the Grace & Favour houses gifted by the Queen to people who have done her a particular service. Stand on the Castle ramparts and look down on the playing fields of Eton.

Wisley Gardens, the headquarters of the Royal Horticultural Society is the most beautiful place to explore. If you are a keen gardener, please do take the time to visit and to look at the plantings, and do ask the staff for any advice you may need about your own garden. The restaurants are excellent and give you somewhere to sit and recuperate before you set off perhaps to the glass houses. If you have children with you, there's a brilliant children's corner which they will love. Please do take time out of your visit to go to Wisley, you'll love it!

Getting around the area

If you have a car, travel is simplified, but if not, we have bicycles you can borrow, or you can take a bus (timetable in your room) or catch a cab. Walking is great. The house is situated on a footpath which leads you onto the golf course in one direction, or through the woods and onto the Basingstoke Canal. To walk into Woking town centre takes approximately 20-25 minutes along the canal or along the road, and from Woking you can take the train to London, or to Portsmouth, or to Guildford which is our county town. So please go and explore, we're happy to help with recommendations for a truly fun and interesting day out.
