Neighborhoods

We call it Isabel Segunda, or Isabel II, or the Town, or the Pueblo, or just Isabel. Regardless, it is a great place to visit and stay while in Vieques> We are 10 minutes from the Carribean beaches by car, and three minutes from the water by foot. Great food is within walking distance, as well as the post office, grocery store, and shopping. There is a lot of history here, and it won't be complete without you!

Electric (and loud) most nights, with great food and drink. Great burgers at Duffy's, but pretty good food everywhere. The Malecon beckons, along with the Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust. Loud and noisy at night, so bring your ear plugs on Friday night!

Food scene

Great folks and great food, only two blocks away! Call early for reservations as they fill up fast in the high season.

Mar Azul is just a bar, and the only place better to see the sunset is Sal del Mar. You have to bring your own beverages, however, and Mar Azul has great drinks, a great sunset, and serves traditional (and sometimes interesting) bar food!

This is our favorite lunch spot! We come for the pasteliillos, but the rice and beans (and everything else on the menu) is about as authentic as you can get. Cool, relaxed, open-air dining in a very informal setting. Flip flops and t-shirts are OK here, and the food is so very, very good!

Sightseeing

A few of our favorite places!
History on the hill! Be sure to visit the last star fort constructed by the Spanish in the new world. Great views and only a short walk from the house (all uphill, but the walk back is a breeze).

You can't go wrong with Playa Caracas (Red Beach). Ten minutes by car and a world away... beautiful beaches, a few pit toilets (nothing fancy, but who needs fancy at the beach). If you arrive early you might even snag a picnic shelter with a table. A wonderful place to spend the day, and plenty of free parking!

The Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust is a great place to visit. Learn about the history of Vieques, as well as efforts to ensure its beauty for years to come. Sign up for a House Tour, or a bird-watching trip, or even a visit to the old sugar mill ruins at Play Grande. VCHT is the place to be!

While not the white sandy beaches of the Carribean, you can't go wrong with a quick swim, sunbathing, or picnic lunch at Sea Glass Beach. It is about a three-minute walk from Sal del Mar, and we love it here. Some days it is packed with sand, other days rocks and gravel, and always refreshing! This is the place for locals and those on foot who want to be in the water!
