Amboy Crater National Natural Landmark is located about 1 hour north of 29 Palms on historic Route 66. This volcanic cinder cone and lava field are best visited in the cooler months and early in the morning as the black lava rock heats up like an oven and can be much hotter than the surrounding desert.

Amboy Crater National Natural Landmark is located about 1 hour north of 29 Palms on historic Route 66. This observatory and nature center has walking trails, gardens, and of course the observatory. The grounds are currently open on a limited basis due to Covid.

The 29 Palms Inn is a historic location with beautiful grounds, and enjoys a lush section of the Oasis of Mara not included in the National Park. The Inn's restaurant is the best in 29 Palms, and includes vegetables grown in their own organic garden. Non-guests are welcome to visit the grounds and restaurant normally - unfortunately the restaurant is currently closed to non-guests due to Covid-19.
