Unplug and unwind! We offer 2 bedrooms with a twin and double bed in each. Each room has a door to a shared porch for morning coffee. There is 1 bathroom (no tub) and 1 outdoor shower. The great room features a small kitchen (apt sized appliances: fridge, sink, oven, stove, microwave, and coffee pot, etc), dining area with an 8' antique table for 6, and small living room with couch and chairs, satellite tv (limited); all 3 living areas have views of the river. The highlight is the 36' covered river porch with 2 porch swings, table for dining or card game, several chairs, sunning spot with gravity chair, outdoor shower, mini fridge for drinks, and large propane grill with extra table for prep. The yard has a firepit with starter wood provided (more for a small fee) and extra chairs available. 3 parking spots: one by the cottage, one just off the road (9 steps up), one across the street. Cottage has well water (we provide starter bottled & jug waters, for some taste preferences), limited satellite tv, Central heating and air. Cell service works best outside and with AT&T. However, we have a land line with 3 phones and can provide the number after cottage is reserved. WE HAVE NO WIFI.
Do nothing or choose high adventure. We prefer to do both!
Hiking is great year round: In the winter, the moss and ferns are almost neon green. All the rock formations are on full display. We have some beautiful sunny days, if that's your preference (Check weather online. This winter, already had a 70 degree day). If you are experienced, you can even raft, kayak, rock climb, or mountain bike on these occasional days. If you prefer snow, Winterplace is 40 min south of us and is known on the east coast as a great place to learn to ski. They also have a tubing park. Snowy hiking is also beautiful if you have proper outerwear and shoes. Spring hiking is great for wildflowers, waterfalls, and catching various bird migrations. We have a waterfall guide book, for your convenience. Spring brings many small sporadic waterfalls that crop up everywhere; including several on Batoff Mt (the mountain you drive down...2.5 miles... to get to the cottage and go up to start many of your adventures). Summer is always perfect for hiking; with the added benefit of various locales that provide swimming spots (bring lifejackets if you want to swim on the New River). Fall hiking has beautiful views of the changing leaves and great temperatures.
Come experience a variety of trails within the gorge. Fall is also a great time to mountain bike... bring your own or rent from Arrowhead Bike Farm near historic Fayetteville. Across the river is Glade Park, for hiking or swimming in the pool of a waterfall. Or put in your kayaks at Glade and take out at the beach at the end of our road (2 vehicles required for this). Amtrak train station 2 miles away. Perfect if you want to meet someone here.
