It is really not easy to write a review about this stay, but I will do my best. Everything started nice, Sara had no time to hand over the key, I picked it up at a nearby restaurant. Shortly after I’ve entered the flat, Sara arrived and explained to me that she sleeps in the living room on the couch while her room is mine. She gave me a lot of information and we had a nice and long conversation. Same the next four days, Sara was very friendly, showed me her favorite restaurant and we had dinner, she said that she will cook one evening, take me to the beach, show me another restaurant etc. However, the following day, Sara was another person. She became very distant and did barely talk to me. I asked if I have done something wrong or if something has happened. She said that something had happened but that she can’t talk about it. I did ask again (per (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)) and the answer was that “she thinks the boundary has changed” and that she “can’t be available all the time and act as a tour guide”. I am traveling a lot (for my job and in private, more than 30 countries so far), the last thing I need is a tour guide. I am also communicative, friendly and polite, if someone starts a conversation with me, I answer. Sara wrote that “she will respect and give me my privacy until the end of my stay”. That would have been 100% ok, if there weren’t this icy atmosphere. Not even a “hello” when entering the flat and looking at me. “The dryer is really simple I don’t know how it’s not working for you!!!” was part of the answer about my laundry (the card was empty). Since all this felt strange and uncomfortable, I asked if there would be a possibility of a cancellation (met nice people who offered me to stay at their place) and, if yes, if she would pay me back some money for the following eight days. I got no answer about the money, just that “you are welcome to stay” and that “it’s up to you whatever you choose to do”. I decided to stay and to spend as little time in the flat as possible. I did barely meet Sara anymore but the situation still felt uncomfortable. The flat itself was as described, located at davie street (home of the city's gay subculture). The bed was clean but I always had red eyes while in the flat and after a while I figured out why. There is a lot of black mold in the bathroom and in the sleeping room (painted over, hard to see). There was also dust under the bed. I am allergic against mold and dust, so this will probably not be a problem for other guests. For the check-out, I had to slide the key under the door, because Sara was not there.

I am sorry for your inconveniences, I do try my best when hosting to accommodate to requests/questions, but please remember that Airbnb hosts also have their own lives, work, and various commitments to deal with and cannot be available all the time, this is standard in the Airbnb world. Some additional notes: - Key was left at a very close restaurant who offered "Keycafe" services, its a key pickup service. - Instructions on Washer/Dryer are provided in the Laundry room, again, it is very simple to follow. (the card had to be recharged a couple of times, one load costs $2.50 and for some reason $15 dollars wasn't enough) - As for his cancellation request, as per Airbnb guidelines, I'm happy to accommodate cancelation request through Airbnb and not offline as Reto requested, I believe that's a safer, more secure way for both host and guest. Guest expected to chat all the time, till late hours, sometimes went overboard with sharing too much details of personal things and it made me uncomfortable, so I had to create new boundaries to avoid any unwanted expectations/advancements. In addition, guest requested that I get him a SIM Card in my name, that requires a credit check in Canada, which is not possible for me to provide as it effects my credit scores, but he was not happy about that either.
Sara is a very friendly host. She's prompt in communications and explained everything clearly from arrival process to checking out. She also made great recommendations on places to shop around the neighborhood when we were trying to find hiking gears :). The location of the place is very convenient for public transportation. We were able to get to most of the places from the bus line right in front of the apartment. Nightlife and restaurants are just minutes walk away. The apartment itself was very clean. In the bedroom there's a walk-in closet and a dresser, both are empty which allowed us to hang our clothes and store luggages :). The bed was very comfortable. And we felt that we had enough privacy and were very welcomed! Highly recommended if you want to visit Vancouver!
Sara was an great host- she is truly hospitable, welcoming, and friendly. She made everything to ensure my stay was enjoyable and pleasant. The location is great- the bus stop is right there, but you can also walk around a lot, and there are great eateries and cafes right on her street. Her place is spacious, comfortable, and very clean!
