Gopala Davies holds a B.A (Hons with Distinction) in Drama and Performance from the University of Pretoria. He is a trained actor and director specialising in both stage and screen.
Gopala is the recipient of The National Arts Festival Award for Best Director (2014) in the student theatre category for his production Barbe Bleue.He has been a regular performer at The National Arts Festival performing in Boys in the Backroom (2008), Three Wall Temple (2009), Like Show Business (2010), The History Boys (2011), Cry Havoc (2013) and directing Barbe Bleue: A story about madness (2014). In 2011 he toured South Africa with Pieter Toerien's The History Boys, (directed by Alan Swerdlow).
Gopala is best known for his role as Mohammed in Tom Coash's Cry Havoc (2013,directed by Alby Michaels), in which he performed alongside David Dennis, and Brenda Radloff. He can also be seen in various TV commercials such as King Price Insurance, Standard Bank Auctioneers, and SABC Editorial Policy Promo.
Gopala has lectured performance in various tertiary institutes and is currently researching the incorporation of technology in live performance as the basis for his Masters degree.
