Ludo is an amazing, kind, generous, professional host. He was so accommodating, friendly, knowledgable, and responsive. We had never been to Gap and Ludo was a great resource to know about upcoming local events - like the music festival we randomly enjoyed, as well as visiting a nearby lake which was beautiful!!
I can't recommend Ludo and Gap, France enough. This was such a pleasure to be there, experience the food and culture, without feeling like a tourist doing tourist things. Instead it felt like we had been dropped into the middle of authentic French life in this fantastic Haute-Alps city of 40K. The city is quaint, clean, full of amazing places to eat and shop, safe, and easy to navigate. Neither my wife nor I speaks good or much French, but with a little (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Translate and some courage, we found ourselves diving in and doing our best to communicate at restaurants, bars, post offices, grocery stores, etc. No matter the scenario, we tried our best to have some language phrases dialed so we didn't look like total fools. We probably butchered the pronunciations, but we ended up okay, and that was fine by us. Most people didn't speak English so it was the kind of opportunity we enjoyed - one where we could blend in and do our best to communicate. Anyway, back to the review: This location is prime! We were there to climb in Ceuse - which is just south of the city near Sigoyer. The hours of our day necessitated the rolled in late each night for dinner and a few places were still serving food at 11pm. This was fantastic if our host was asleep and we just needed a quick bite before bed. Not only this, but just outside the front door of the apartment building were many shops with fresh baked goods, espresso, etc. Cuisine varied from Italian pizza around the corner to French, Indian, and Jamaican, etc. It was just the kind of local variety we were seeking.
I can't recommend Gap enough. Go there! The buildings downtown - the many beautiful squares, all made for a thoroughly relaxing experience. One we are looking forward to returning to.
