I stayed in one of Paulina's apartments with my school-age son for 10 nights. It was a great arrangement for the two of us. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was hot. I prepared simple meals for my son on the small gas stove in the unit and he relaxed with Netflix cartoons in the evening. I felt very safe in both the apartment and neighborhood and thought Paulina (and her family, including their cute little dog) were lovely and welcoming hosts. People in the neighborhood were friendly as well. We actually experienced a brief tremor one evening (!), but Paulina checked on us immediately and was calm and reassuring throughout. Here are my notes and tips for future guests: These apartments are within easy walking distance of several good language schools and most of the sights of the Centro Historico. Laundry services, banks (the ATM at the Cruz Roja is quicker to use during the day), bakeries, markets, and mini-marts are all close by. You can pick up a safe, legal taxi just around the corner, in front of the Secret Garden hostel on Antepara. There are also at least five small cafes/bars on Antepara where you can get a take-out (or sit-down) dinner for $5 or less. Know that the street traffic can be noisy at times, so if you are a light sleeper, you may want to bring ear plugs (I always use them when traveling). Also, bring your slippers (I didn't - dumb mistake), because those beautiful wood floors can be cold at night when you step out of the hot shower. Overall, I thought the apartment was a very good value - safe, convenient, and comfortable - and was glad I chose it. Paulina is terrific!
