Located in the sleepy village of Bouriege in the Languedoc, the heart of Cathar country. Exposed stone walls, large open plan skye-lit living room and kitchen . Sleeps 4. Shared solar heated pool, 2 gardens and a terrace. A rustic and peaceful haven.
The studio as befits a converted barn is a rustic but lovely place to stay. The walls are all old unfinished stone and the floors wide pine floorboards. The studio has two bedrooms with separate full bath on the ground floor level. It sleeps up to four people comfortably. Up a steep flight of stairs is the main studio/living space with a large skylight and complete working kitchen. Copper pots, complete set of dishes cutlery and cooking utensils as well as small fridge freezer. French doors open onto a small balconette and the stairs down to the the shared solar heated pool. Up one more staircase is an internal balcony that opens out onto the outdoor shared large terrace.
Just opposite the studio is a small walled garden with a stone table and chairs, barbeque and swing. We store our bikes here that you are welcome to borrow to take out for a spin. We even have a tandem bike for your use.
Further down the village is another garden by a stream where we play badminton or croquet or just laze in the hammock or sit under the cherry tree with a good book.
There is a simple cafe in the village and on Thursdays a small Marche nocturne- i.e. night market.
Guests have shared access to the terrace, the solar heated swimming pool as well as the two gardens- one just opposite the artist studio- a small walled garden with stone bbq, swing and stone table and chairs for meals al fresco- the other is further down the village by a small stream also with a stone bbq, table and chairs for eating out, badminton and croquet for those who want to be more active as well as a swing and hammock for those who want to enjoy the quiet.

We are on hand if you need us and are happy to help when you need us - from making restaurant reservations locally( Our good friends run a lovely simple table d'hote in the next village over) or wine tastings or just advice for where to take a good walk, bike ride or a good picnic spot or local market. Our favorite farmers market is on Sunday morning in Esperaza. We always make sure to get there buy our fresh fruit and local produce for the week and then hang out and have our coffee or Pastis and watch the world go by.
The studio is the converted barn and stable where the travelers from the auberge next door used to keep their horses. The auberge is still there and like in a hotel, the pool and terrace and gardens are shared, so we ask you to be respectful of your other neighbors in residence. We have always found there is plenty of space for everyone between all the various gardens and outdoor spaces.
Sorry no smoking indoors and please be very careful if you smoke outdoors. Do pick up and take with your ashtray and cigarettes at the end of the evening.
No children are allowed around the pool area or in the pool unsupervised by an adult. We love our pool but water is dangerous, and we ask you to be responsible for your children- obvious request but worth making for the safety and happiness of everyone.
For the same reason, no glass around the pool area either. We have plastic cups and glasses to use round the pool.
We ask as a courtesy that everyone take a shower in the outdoor shower ( it does have hot and cold, so no-one has to suffer a cold shower) before going into the pool.
Speaking of showers, we are in an area where water is an issue, so especially in the hot summer months try to be careful about your water consumption. Don't run the water when you wash the dishes if you can avoid it and try and avoid overly long showers. Thanks for your understanding.
Candles. We love them and we have lots of candelabras in all the houses. Please don't leave any unattended. Blow them out if you leave the room.
Most importantly we want everyone to enjoy themselves as we do in our old house in the little village of Bouriege.

Books from PD James to JM Coetze, Music from Beethoven to Billy Holiday and Tom Waites. We love to cook, eat and entertain. We recently renovated our apartment and now cook up feasts in our glorious open plan kitchen. Alvin makes the sushi. I make the Indian and Thai meals We share the fun of cooking French and Italian meals.
We are movie fans and BBC Radio 4 addicts. Netflix gets a workout from us as well. The tandem bicycle you see outside the building is ours. We bike everywhere-winter and summer-in Manhattan and out to Brooklyn. It is the best way to get around and see the city.
Alvin is an artist. The pictures you see in the hallways and on our walls are his. We travel a fair bit for his art which is why our apartment is listed on Airbnb.
