Об этом жилье
The garden cottage, as the name implies, is surrounded by lots of growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers. You have a lot of privacy in your own little eco-house (with a gray water system) in our quiet back yard. Now with a flush toilet!
This is a small bedroom and a living room/kitchenette in a former art studio in our backyard garden - fruit trees, vegetables, berries, and herbs. The studio has bamboo floors, hot water, a shower, a fridge, a microwave, induction stove, and toaster oven, and wifi/ethernet, and now, a flush toilet (had to retire the composting toilet). There is also a tv with roku and if you have a wifi enabled laptop with an HDMI port, you can hook it up to the tv for a big screen experience. It's quiet and cozy, and we have a hammock, too. The bed is a double that two people can fit on (but the second person is an extra $25/night). Also, starting in September, we will have to add a 12% hotel tax on top of the airbnb taxes to comply with new Berkeley short term rental ordinances. We will collect them separately when you arrive.
We live in the flats in a diverse neighborhood with easy access to public transportation - 5 minute walk to the transbay bus into SF and 15-20 walk to the BART (subway). You can walk to some great restaurants, parks, and U.C. Berkeley. Also, since I love to bake, you will often get to share in the (usually) sweet treats.
We are a 5 minute walk from Vik's Chaat Corner, the best South Indian food in the Bay Area, and a 10 minute walk from the 4th street shops. See the Guidebook for this listing for a more complete rundown of the restaurants and stores nearby.
No smoking or pets allowed, though we have a hypoallergenic cat. Please refrain from using any strong perfumes in consideration of future guests - thanks!
We just put in a graywater system to help water the garden, so the more eco-friendly your soap/shampoo/other cleaning products (We provide some for you), the happier the garden. We are in a severe drought right now, though, so please go easy on the water.
Finally, when you make a reservation, please let me know an estimated time of arrival and departure so I can coordinate with other guests. Thanks, and I look forward to meeting you!
You have wifi and a tv you can hook up your laptop to and we have a roku so you can watch netflix and some other channels as well. You can also use our washer and dryer - just let us know.
Общение с гостями
Since you are in your own little house, you have as much privacy as you want, but you can always chat with us if you want.
Другие важные подробности
For a good, nearby, and affordable breakfast, try Tomate on 5th street between Bancroft and Allston. The corner market, literally next door, is awesome and carries just about anything you'll need. Street parking is abundant, but be aware that the first Monday of the month is street cleaning day on our side of the street and the first Friday of the month is street cleaning day on the opposite side of the street, so don't park there on those mornings.
When entering the address into (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps, be sure to spell out the number: 2239 seventh street, Berkeley, CA. Otherwise, for some reason, (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps will send you to 7th street in Oakland. It's weird and annoying.
1. Be peaceful.
2. Be kind.
3. Be happy.
4. No smoking in or around the cottage.

I am an ESL and college writing teacher in the San Francisco Bay area with an artist wife who is now a librarian in the Oakland Public Library (go libraries!) and a 10 year-old daughter. We also have a fluffy yet hypoallergenic cat named Doodlebug. My wife and I have done a lot of travelling around the world, backpack style, and in fact we met in Thailand, so we love hanging out with people from other countries, which I guess includes the rest of the U.S. I cook and bake a lot, often using the veggies I grow in the backyard, and my daughter and I started learning how to play the fiddle recently (I grew up punk rock and now play bluegrass and old timey fiddle music - who'd a thunk it?). My daughter and I are vegetarians and my wife is a flexitarian (vegetarian except when she's not). Nobody in my family smokes, so we don't allow smoking in or around the house.
