A private apartment (also known as an in-law apartment) is the first floor of an historic home. The apartment has its own private entrance, kitchen, and bath, in a beautifully maintained historic neighborhood of the city. The neighborhood is residential but within easy walking distance of the lake and many of the cities greatest attractions. The transit station is a block away, and from there, a 10 minute ride to downtown (or a 1/2 hour walk along beach from house to downtown).
Stay in a charming private first floor apartment with its own private entrance in a restored victorian home within a well maintained historic district in Chicago. It is often said to be the best location in the city. From the house it's a five minute walk to Lake Michigan and an additional 20 minute walk along the lake front to downtown Chicago. Or you can catch the train at the Sedgwick station, 1 block south, with connections to all points of the city and to both airports. 2 blocks to the east is Wells Street, home to the world famous Second City Comedy Club, along with restaurants, music clubs, pubs, boutiques, and galleries. In the neighborhood you will find beautifully restored historic homes and local pubs that have been here for generations. the 500 SF space has a restored Victorian interior with the original tin walls and ceiling, and a small but modern equipped kitchen and a new bathroom with tub. Coffee and some simple pantry staples will be provided. The living space is an open layout with the queen bed separated from the rest of the living space by an armoire. In the winter months guests may use the gas fire place, but instruction by host is required for use. Air-condtioning is controlled by the guests in the summer from June till fall.
Also provided are Wifi, TV, and guest parking passes for overnight street parking.
There is a private entrance for guests from the outside to their apartment which occupies the entire living space of the first floor (500 sf). The guest's front door has a keypad lock which will be coded to the guests 4 digit phone number as listed on airbnb.

It is a private space with a private entrance and amenities and as such I give my guests total privacy. The apartment has a keyless entry using a keypad coded lock so there is no key exchange. Depending on arrival time it is possible that I will not meet them during their stay . I make an attempt to meet guest but once they are settled in, I am not persistent. I occupy the part of the house not accessible to guests. I work so I am frequently not at home but I am always reachable by phone and check email often.

There is a protected storage area for bikes, but not in the living space. Please let me know in advance if you will bringing or renting bikes that need a safe place.

Because of the size and nature of this unique space and its furnishings, it is intended for the enjoyment of airbnb guest only, and the entertainment of local friends and family is generally not permitted at the apartment. Exceptions must be discussed with the host in advance. No additional overnight guests who were not included in reservation.
Please leave the apartment as tidy as you found it and use the coasters provided to protect the hardwood and marble surfaces within the apartment. No under-age drinking (under 21), or illegal substances permitted.
Use of the fireplace is for the winter months and requires instruction from host on arrival. If late or uncertain arrival time is anticipated, a convenient time will be scheduled for this the next day.
