Beautiful 18th Century self-catering holiday home in the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall. Grade II listed building on the Garrison (skirted with old cannons in 16th C batteries) next to Hugh Town, St Mary’s, the Isles of Scilly’s most habited island.
Sleeping seven, it boasts a grand dining room (complete with life size porpoise caste by my granddad), spacious kitchen, elegant sitting room, and incredible sea views from all rooms.
The perfect locale for a Winter stay-cation. Long walks on rocky foreshores, big seas and fresh wind, quiet beaches, crying gulls and clean sea air will reinvigorate you through and through. Coming into into the warm of a gorgeous Scilly pub to a pint and fish and chips, or back to your very own mansion house with warm AGA and coal fires, and dramatic sea views all around is absolute paradise. No better place to experience the winter in the UK in my opinion!
Ground Floor - stately dining room with open hearth. Massive kitchen with AGA style cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, drier and seating for eight.
First Floor - elegant sitting room with 160 degree sea views from the islands, Annet in the west to St Martins in the north east, with spectacular sunsets from March to October. Hearth for coal fire, double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and additional single bedroom.
Second Floor - two light and spacious twin rooms with dormer windows on both north and south sides (capacity for a third bed in one). Bathroom, with separate toilet.
There is an extensive library including natural history, archaeology, art and Scillionian local interest publications.
WiFi, electric heating, towels and linen all provided in the price, although WiFi coverage is a little patchy and better in some areas of the house than others.
You will have access to a private garden just in front of the house, in a former gun battery, surrounded with exotic looking plants and your own barbecue for summer. There is easy access to rocky foreshore where wild weather is incredible to watch in the winter, and gig/sailing races to watch in summer.
There is even a little conservatory on the foreshore which belongs to the house which is very peaceful to sit in and read.
