This private room features Bohemian decor, a sweet sleeping alcove with a queen bed & also has a twin bed on the other side of the room. Create a beautiful vibe at night by turning on the pierced Moroccan brass lamps and watch the light patterns play across the ceiling. Our most popular room.
Our two Airbnb rooms are on their own floor of the house & share a kitchenette, TV room (w/ office work space) & bathroom.
Coffee/Tea, Fast wireless WiFi, Yoga gear, lending library are all included.
The house was in a desperate state of disrepair when we bought it in 2002, but we have been lovingly restoring it ever since. While all the major things have been fixed and many rooms are now back to their former glory, be aware that with old homes like ours, there is always more to do - so is not 100% perfect... yet :) We are still working on perfecting a few areas, however none of it affects the comforts of your rooms.
HISTORY OF THE REED HOUSE:
This historical landmark house sits within a distinguished grouping of late 1880s and 1890s Victorian residences in the Hensley Historic District of San Jose.
The house was designed by notable architect W.D. Van Siclen, and represents one of the first houses he designed after settling in San Jose as a young architect in the early 1890s. The original owner, Henry Reed, was associated with the Independent Mill and Lumber Company, a supplier of fine wood products. With Van Siclen’s designs, and Reed’s building materials, the two proceeded to build many of the larger homes and mansions in the district.
Our home is the first house built, and was used as a “Model House” to acquire business from. Because of that, every possible ornamentation was incorporated within the house’s unusual design.
The elaborate representations of Victorian-era workmanship embodied in this house are clearly connected to his involvement in the wood product business. Queen Anne details found in this house are exemplary, such as the unusual shingled eyebrow over the front bay window, a rare curved porch, a gabled and angled corner bay, and sophisticated trim work associated with the high-point of Victorian-era ornamentation such as carved wood brackets, turned spindles, wide frieze boards, and rope pattern trim.
The Reeds, as well as later long-time residents such as the Keffel and Vincenz families enjoyed living in one of the finest examples of Renaissance Revival interiors. Much of the interior is still in pristine original condition. The house remains a distinctive representation of its era, in both design and detailing. It is clearly the work of a master architect, being an especially fine example of the Queen Ann architecture in San Jose.
The common rooms include the Drawing Room, TV room, Kitchenette, and Bathroom.

We love travel, meeting new people and believe in the sharing economy, paying it forward, and the power of positive thinking. The last places we traveled to was Hawai’i’s Big Island, Bali, Burning Man and Portland (though not necessarily in that order).
Our hosting style is friendly and easy going. While we enjoy a great conversation, we are also happy to give guests their space (just let us know how you are feeling - as we are happy to go with the flow). We love entertaining and hosting people because it gives us an opportunity to share the terrific house that we restored ourselves, and are lucky enough to call home.
Our home embraces all nations with open arms, and is respectful of all belief systems and lifestyles. You are welcome here!
Best wishes on your amazing journey! We hope that you will consider a stay with us.
