This is the same hotel as found in lonely planet. And it is really cheaper when booked via Airbnb. As written in some other reviews, We have also been the only guests since it was a quiet season. But everything was tidy and in good order. The small shops around always provided us with fried chicken and rice, and we met some nice locals. The way to the beach is around 3-3,5km, it is an okay walk and we heard you could also rent bikes or scooters at Jake's in the village. Overall, we had a nice time!
Anyone considering gong to Treasure Beach should stay here, this is a fantastic hotel, clean, cheap and with some outstanding staff. Yeas the grounds are unkept and so is the pool, but the hotel opens for you and your guests, we had the whole place to ourselves, 2 guests, 2 staff, what more could you want, and the more people that stay then the more they can do...Please everyone stay here, an absolutely wonderful experience. 5 Stars.
For those thinking of renting, the main thing to know is that the hotel is further away from Treasure Beach than depicted. It's several km up into the hills towards Black River, and if you don't have a car, transportation options will be limited. (There are route taxis but they're infrequent and don't run in the evening.) Also, yes, this is the same hotel that has its own website and is listed in the lonely planet, and yes, they are undercutting their own prices here on airbnb. We never met Don or had any communication with him. There were two staff members at the hotel. They made us welcome, but primarily played a groundskeeping role rather than a hospitality role. Despite the well-kept gardens, there was a definite air of the hotel being abandoned or an afterthought, contributed to by us being the only guests (despite the high season). There were lots of burned out lights, and very little outdoor furniture, though staff were happy to provide chairs and a table when asked. We ended up enjoying our stay, including time at the pool (kid) and gorging on mangoes and jelly coconuts grown on site. We also ended up doing a lot of walking, and in the end, moved to the beach, which is what I suspect most travelers would want to do. (There are also more reasonable options on the beach than it first seems.)
Where to begin... It seems to us that Don has misunderstood the airbnb app. Instead of discribing what facilities the actual room had, he must have had described what might be a possiblity to purchase. No internet, no a/c, no breakfast included, no tv and when we got there the pool looked lethal(it was cleaned the next day). The location of the hostel didnt match the location on the (EMAIL HIDDEN) it was way further from the beach than described. There was no access to a guests kitchen- but we leand the actual kitchen where the staff cookes for the visitors. And bring a spare tire, maybe two- the roads have seen better days. But but but the room was clean and the staff did their best to help.
